Avery's POV “What rubbish did she put together, is it even going to be edible? Looks pretty but will it taste decent at least?” The whispers continued, all the chefs were critiquing my work, I hadn't even served it for tasting but everyone had an opinion about it, some liked it, some didn't, it scented really nice and looked nice too but the taste was what would determine if I got the job or not. “Quiet everyone, we will all take turns tasting the food Avery has made and come to a conclusion after that,” Jake said, as the head chef, I thought he was the one who tasted the food to determine if I was employed or not but letting everyone taste it was a different ball game all together and for some reason it made me even more nervous. So the meal was set on the table and I was made to stand close to it in an exhibition manner and then all the chefs formed a circle around it, taking turns to taste the food as the circle went round until the last person did, I looked at the faces of t

Avery's POV “It's ready but we still haven't decided on what toppings to use,” one of the chefs said, now from what I discovered from my little time in the Kitchen, one of the requirements to be a chef and work in the kitchen was to also be a baker, you weren't required to do it all the time especially if you didn't come to bake but it was for times like this I suppose. “What can we use?” I asked in a panic, our time was running out and we needed to deliver on time. “Let's use honey,” Jake said and bought some fresh honey drizzling it on the cinnamon biscuits, and giving it to the server. We were all holding our breaths and praying they liked it. “So this is what it means to be a chef?” I asked myself as I thought about the whole situation, the task of fitting people's state buds was one of the most difficult tasks ever. “What are you thinking about?” A chef named Margaret asked me, she seemed to be very quiet but she knew her onions. “What type of person would I need to b

Avery's POV “So you are a coward,” I said to Jake silently, he was my boss but I didn't care. I had not known Ella or Jake for a long time but I could already tell they would make a lovely couple. “Call me whatever you want,” Jake said almost immediately, what would it feel like to be loved by a man in this manner? I didn't know but I was going to make sure that Ella could tell me. “Wine!” Ella announced as she re-entered the kitchen, I was so happy to see her face shining so brightly. I might not know what that felt like but I suddenly had the urge to give her everything I didn't have. “Just sit here while we finish up with the food,” Jake said to her and I looked at the both of them intently trying to understand their chemistry. Her Ella looked at him with those eyes and at that moment I knew that their feelings were mutual, she was already in love with this man, so why couldn't he see that? “Ella can I speak to you for a minute,” I said almost immediately, I couldn't help mys

Àvery's POV “I can tell this meal was your idea,” the woman finally said with a smile, the idea was in fact mine but this was no time to take any credit because the truth of the matter is that if things had gotten out of hand everyone would have faced it so there was no need to accept all the credit for myself. “I apologize for disappointing you Ma’am but this idea was curated and deliberated by the entire kitchen, the same way every meal we serve is carefully deliberate and decided on by all the chefs,” I responded with a smile, her husband looked up at me and smiled. “Smart girl,” the man said with a deep baritone, it almost sounded like a roar and the hairs on my body stood. I actually had goosebumps on hearing his voice, I couldn't speak for a few seconds and then I found my voice. “Thank you, Sir,” I said bowing. I didn't plan to but it just came naturally. I was very sure that there was something strange and different about this couple but I didn't have the time to ask and s

Avery's POV “What do you mean Ma?” I said taking the towel from her and covering myself with it, did she see me when I transformed? I looked at her in confusion, I was sure I had heard wrongly, did she just ask me to be her daughter? She was advanced in age and her husband too so I supposed they already had children. If that was true then why did she need or want a daughter? “I said to be my daughter,” the woman repeated again with a smile, looking into her eyes I could tell she was very sad and I didn't know why, she had everything her heart could desire so what was making her so sad? “Why do you need a daughter Ma’am? Or do you only have sons?” I asked the woman trying to understand where she was coming from. It felt strange to want to make someone a part of your family, especially if you just met them and know nothing about them. “Twenty years ago, I lost my daughter, she would have been around your age by now and I think I want you to fill that gap,” the woman said lookin
