RUBBY'S POV "I'll be expecting you guys," he said and rushed out. We didn't have time to ask what was wrong; we just hoped it was for good."What was that?" Alex asked immediately he was out of sight."Do you see the way he looks at you? Why did.....urghh! Rubby.""You're so jealous," I said laughing."It's not funny," Alex answered and made funny faces."He still has a soft spot for you, don't you see?""I don't see," I answered feigning ignorance."You better don't. You're mine alone."I had barely rested for a few hours before I found myself asking Alex for something that made him grumble."Can we go see them now?""Rubby, you just woke up. You need to rest.""Baby but I'm fine," I answered as calmly as possible. "I just want to see the boy, I owe them that, don't you think?"He looked at me for some time with eyes full of concern. I knew he wanted to protect me like a fragile glass door, but he wouldn't refuse me anything."Fine," he rolled his eyes. "If the nurse says you are re

RUBBY'S POV I smiled at Annie, who kept looking at her boy like there was no other person in the room.Though I wasn't a mother yet, I knew that feeling. I had felt it several times when I thought my dad would leave me.Moments later, the doctor walked in, clapping his stethoscope around his neck."He is stable, but we still need to monitor his vitals for a week or more to be sure."Annie nodded. "Thank you so much.""I can die in peace now. I've got a grandson and a granddaughter," the chairman said playfully."You've got two grandsons," Mom corrected, and we all burst out laughing.Funny how the past few weeks had brought out the monstrous part of everybody, yet we were still able to sit together and laugh. Indeed, family was everything."You all should let him sleep now," the doctor announced after injecting him with a colourless liquid."Sure," Annie replied and tucked him in before walking away with us.We made our way to the reception; thankfully the chairs were enough to seat u

RUBBY'S POV Morning came faster the next day.I grunted when Alex opened the curtain, and the ray of light almost blinded me.Last night was a hell of an exercise, and I had fallen asleep after tidying up."Josh called," Alex announced when I sat up."What a beautiful way to help me start my morning," I said, sarcasm dripping from my tone."Because you've been sleeping for hours, look at the time.""Oh shit!" I exclaimed when I noticed how long I had slept.Hours later, we were driving to the prison with Josh and Annie. The chairman blatantly refused to come with us, and Josh asked my parent to stay back.He didn't want them going around for him.Of course, Mom readily agreed; she never liked Mrs Emily."You sure about this?" Alex whispered as the car came to a halt outside the towering gates of the correctional facility."Of course.""Hey, man," he called out to Josh, whose hand rested on the steering wheel as though he was still thinking of the decision he made."Let's go," he mutt

ALEXANDER'S POV I watched Emily walk away majestically as though she had not just ruined my entire day. What did she have to say?Why must my mom and the chairman be in attendance? What was she plotting?A final move?I kept my calm, and we carried on with the ceremony. Josh shot me the "what do we do?" look, and I shrugged my shoulders. One by one, the guests left until we were once again left by ourselves. The chairman was the first to break the silence."Emily will not come near my company again. There will be no board meeting whatsoever; she has absolutely nothing to say."I looked at Josh, but his face had no expression."What do you think?" I muttered."I know my mom. She does have a plan, and it isn't a good one. I will instruct the policemen not to let her move again. Whatever it is she wants to say, she should say it to me."Those were Josh's words, and it was final. The chairman seemed relieved, and I couldn't tell if he was being suspicious. Was there something he was hi

RUBBY'S POV I held my phone close to my heart as if I could feel Alex's heart through it. I was getting scared. The last time he didn't pick up his call, he ended up with Annie. Now this?"What's going on?" I muttered.Every time I looked down at my phone and saw no missed calls or new messages from Alex, my chest hurt a little more.Mom sat watching me with concern written all over her face; Dad, on the other hand, had gone upstairs to make some calls, but I couldn't focus; my thoughts were running wild.I dialled again and again, yet got voicemail."God help me, please," I muttered and clutched the phone tighter to my chest."Rubby," my mom whispered, "you need to sit and breathe. "Look at you; you are shaking, and you know what condition you are in now."I tilted my head and blinked back tears. I couldn't break down, at least not yet.But my voice cracked as I spoke."Something is wrong, Mom; I can feel it. I.....""Baby, you did the right thing by telling Josh; I trust him to ha
