Chapter 22Vaelora’s POVI run as fast as my legs can carry me, wheezing past the numerous people walking in the building. My dress catches on a door and I pull it out, blinking back the tears that threatens to spill from my eyes. Before I can get to the door, I keel over and release the air sitting in my lungs, my vision slightly blurring.Ulric suddenly appears beside me but I don’t move an inch. He doesn’t say a word either as he waits for me to catch my breath.I look up to see him staring at me with confusion etched on his brows. Patting my chest lightly, I ride up to my feet and heave before passing him a small smile and taking a step towards the door.“Are you okay?” He questions as we walk to the end of the house with me quietly counting the time until we can finally get out of here.“Yes.” I breathe out.He doesn’t push further even though I can see how much he wants to. I silently thank him for not being inquisitive as he checks in with the guards before joining me outside o

Chapter 24Vaelora’s POVThe rest of the dinner goes by in a blur, with the King Alpha asking me questions about myself and holding conversations all the while with a happy smile on his face, a clear contrast to his brooding son. It’s been fifteen minutes since we finished eating and the King Alpha retired to his bed.Zarek had asked me to stay back for a conversation to brief about what’s going to happen tomorrow, but he’s not said a word to me since then.“I think I’ll just head to bed.” I say and proceed to stand up from my seat.“We still have a pending conversation.” He says and looks up at me, watching me intently.I rock on my heels, slightly uncomfortable with his piercing gaze as heat washes over my entire body and wetness pools at my panties.I shouldn’t feel like this.‘Mate.’I shut my eyes for a moment to shut Blair up and look back at Zarek who has now leaned back into the chair with his hands folded over his broad chest.“You still haven’t said anything for the past w m

Chapter 26Vaelora’s POVWe are so late, and my nervousness is skyrocketing.Checking the time one more time, I adjust the dress on my body one more time and sigh heavily before plastering my most practiced, fake smile on my face and and walking out of the room behind Aria.As soon as I step out, I suck in a sharp breath and look around, waiting behind for a few seconds to see if Zarek will come out. Although sometimes in my guts already tells me that he’s probably been out in the hall where the event is taking place.I wipe my sweaty palms on my dress and exhale loudly before rushing down the stairs, hoping to catch up with my maid’s quick steps. She glances over her shoulder and I see the faint smile on her lips as she realizes I’m behind her. For some weird reason, she’s asked me to walk in front of her, knowing very well that I’m unfamiliar to my current surroundings.Few minutes later, we stop at another unfamiliar looking door and I wonder just how many houses are in this place.

Chapter 28Vaelora’s POVI roll my eyes at Aria and laugh nervously, dragging the sheets up to my chest.“You really should stop worrying about me this much, Aria.” She gives me another soft bow again and I sigh, tired of trying to convince her to relax. After catching me bleeding from the injury inflicted on my thighs from my fingers, she’d panicked and thought I was on my period. Although I tried to convince her that I’m okay, she’d refused to leave my side since then.“You can leave for now. I’ll call you when I need you.” I say firmly and she nods, hurrying out of the door.I hurl the sheets off my body and hop out of bed, the dull ache of the wound still attacking me. Picking up my phone, I scroll through my notifications to check if I’ve gotten anything from Maya. Nothing. It’s been threee days since the unfortunate introduction and since then, I’ve not seen or heard from Zarek. Partly because I’ve not left my room since the encounter between me and Nyra.I pick up the brown en

Chapter 30Vaelora’s POVThe room fall silent as we hold each other’s gazes.“What does that even mean?”The muscles in his face relaxes, although his jaw is still ticking with an annoyance I can’t place my hand on.“You need to pretend we are mating.” He deadpans and I scoff. Is this man being serious right now or is he actually as clueless as I think?“How do I do that?”“Are you dumb?” I flinch at his sudden murderoous gaze, my eyes widening.“I could ask you the same thing, Alpha. Do you really think your father would be that easy to fool? The pack will expect a child!” I explain to him like an adult teaching a two year old and in this moment, I silently thank my teachers for not giving up on me as a kid.He rakes his hands through his hair and for the first time, I see a slight hint of frustration on his face.“We can adopt.”I shake my head, smacking my forehead with the back of my palm. It’s one thing for a ruler to be impulsive, it’s another for him to be unbelievably cluele
