When Elaina returned to the council chamber, she was alone. The strange woman did not come with her. The council member were still muttering with arguments of if the Alfred's father ever had another child, but they died down the moment the doors shut behind her. Every pair of eyes turned in expectation. Some were relieved, others were curious and eager for her report and command. But upon seeing that she had returned alone, they assumed she had handled it.She must have discovered that the strange woman was just attention seeking and had probably ordered guards to throw her out or arrest her.Elaina walked back to her seat on the table, she looked a little distracted and an unreasonable expression was etched in her face. Drake eyebrows furrowed in suspicion upon seeing her, she looked too lost and something felt off. But then if there was a fluctuation in her emotions then he would have felt it, but everything seemed normal since she left. “Well? Is she gone?” Glynn who was one of

Elaina stepped forward knowing deep down that fighting Charlotte was a death sentence. Not because she was weak or lacked power. But because Charlotte did not fight like ordinary enemies. She did not charge blindly, she calculated and unwrapped you with her eyes. And Elaina understood now that stepping into this confrontation meant walking directly into a web that had likely been spun long before she realized she was caught in it.But she could not allow anyone else to stand in her place.Definitely not Drake or the warriors waiting for her to give orders. She was already feeling guilty about the innocent families Charlotte had already punished because of her obsession. If Charlotte wanted her, then she would have her.Elaina forced her breathing to slow down as she tapped into her dragon bloodline just like Drake had taught her. She could not rush in with anger or she might make a fatal mistake she would regret.Or she might even die without realizing it.Charlotte watched her approa

The rush of wind slowed gradually as Drake descended, his powerful wings stopped flapping and glided carefully. They were in a thick and untouched forest far from the chaos they had just escaped. When his claws finally touched the ground, the forest animals ran into hiding and trees shook from the air around him. He had been flying with Elaina for over an hour now, they were both in silence throughout, both shaken and still trying to process what had happened. Drake laid her down on the forest floor and willed himself to shift. The sound of bones cracking echoed across the forest and his scales and wings receded back into his skin. His massive dragon form disappeared in seconds, leaving Drake standing there with his chest rising and falling from tiredness. Elaina at this time had fully regained consciousness and being dropped on the ground was like a wake up call to truly process the one thing she hated most. Running. They had fled like cowards… She stepped back from Drake once s

The resting cave was bigger than Elaina expected. Drake said they had created them so people could rest for the night if they were too exhausted to return to the kingdom. It was located deep into the side of the cliffs, hidden from plain sight. And its entrance was covered by overgrown vines. From the outside it looked like just another crack in the mountain. But inside… it was something else entirely. Drake had said nothing when he brought her there. Just a simple, “We’ll stay here for now.” And that was it. Two days had passed since then and nothing changed. Drake would step out in the morning and return with some game and fruits, they would eat and he would take her out to see other parts of the temple while explaining the history tied to it. Elaina of course loved learning about ancient histories, it amazed her every time… but deep she knew what was missing. Elaina sat near the edge of the cave, her knees drawn slightly inward as she stared out at the endless stretch of sky b

Elaina’s heart skipped so violently it hurt. “No…” she whispered.Ryker frowned slightly, confused by her reaction. “You know her?”Elaina’s lips parted, but no words came out immediately. Her mind raced, her only surviving family was somewhere close.Aurora.The name echoed over and over again in her head. Her mother… she wasn't dead after all, all those thoughts that had haunted her on the dreadful possibility that she was chasing shadows… it was not true. Her chest tightened, emotions crashing into her all at once.“She’s… my mother.” The words came out barely above a whisper but they carried all the raw emotions she felt; shock, hope and fear….Drake turned to her instantly, his eyes widening slightly. He had been too caught up with worrying about Vaerik that he hadn't connected the dots faster. To think it was Elaina's mother who had stepped in to protect his people, the world really was a small place.“Elaina…” he called out in a bid to comfort her.But she wasn’t looking at him
