Third Person POVThe sun was setting when Amelia finally snapped her laptop shut. Her eyes ached from staring at the screen all day, and the numbers and projections were starting to blur together. She’d spent most of the day buried in reports from the Jharvis contract, cross-checking clauses, making margin notes, and firing back emails that she hoped sounded as sharp as she wanted. Last thing she wanted was to come off sounding like a pushover. But she couldn’t help it, the work that is, this deal wasn’t just another one of her project, it was leverage and proof that she could do this without Rafael's help.A stack of printed files sat untouched at her elbow. She sighed, reaching for one, but her wrist trembled slightly as she lifted it. Too much coffee and too little rest.“You’re still at it?” Ruby’s voice called from the doorway.Amelia didn’t look up. “If I don’t catch these loopholes, Jharvis will use them to bleed me dry.”Ruby crossed the room, dropping a folder onto the desk.

THIRD PERSON POVRuby stretched lazily across the bed, the sheet tangled around her legs, her hair spilling over the pillow in soft waves. Morning light filtered through the curtains, catching the faint smirk tugging at her lips.“You’re leaving already?” she asked, voice still husky from sleep.Ricardo buttoned his shirt, deliberately slow, ignoring the way her eyes tracked his every movement. “Some of us have work to do,” he muttered, tugging the collar into place. She propped herself up on an elbow, feigning a pout. “And here I thought I was work. Hard work, in fact.”That drew a small huff of laughter out of him despite himself. “You’re a distraction,” he said, but his tone lacked bite.“Maybe that’s what you need sometimes.” She tilted her head, all playful innocence, though her eyes gleamed knowingly. “Besides, you’ll miss me the second you step out that door.”Ricardo shook his head, but when he leaned down to kiss her briefly, she smiled against his lips. It was irritatingly e

Amelia’s POVThe envelope lay on my desk, its contents spread in a neat line. I didn’t need to look at them again, I already had, over and over until the images burned behind my eyelids. Still, my eyes kept dragging back to them, as if staring hard enough would change what I saw.Me and Kelvin.Laughing at the park with paint smeared on my wrist. I was leaning into him on the blanket in the picture with his hand hovering gently over mine. The moment was supposed to be innocent but the way it had been captured was anything but that. Especially if it was showing up on my table like this to scare me.My stomach twisted.I knew who had left the envelope. Camille hadn’t even bothered to hide her hand in it, her quiet exit yesterday had been too smooth, perhaps, her entire purpose of coming was to drop this off. And this, these photographs, were exactly her style. She was definitely hoping that I would see them and start fearing for my life and I couldn't say that it was not working. What

Amelia’s POVThe morning light filtered gently through the curtains, brushing warmth across my face. I stretched against the sheets, half-expecting to find Kelvin somewhere near, like he had been the past few mornings. But the room was empty and the stillness louder than usual as if taunting me.I sat up slowly, rubbing my eyes. It had been a while since I’d woken without his presence hovering nearby, sometimes with his watchful silence, sometimes with a remark sharp enough to make me roll my eyes before breakfast but today, the absence left a large space that I couldn’t quite shake.I tried not to dwell on it. He had his own routines, after all, and I had work to bury myself in.By the time I stepped into the kitchen, Ruby was already there, humming to herself as she buttered toast. Ricardo, of course, was leaning against the counter like he owned the place, his hair was still damp from a shower and he was flipping through his phone with a small smirk at the corner of his lips.“Mor

Ruby’s POVSleep was overrated, or at least, that’s what I told myself as I rolled over for the hundredth time, the sheets twisting around my legs.My mind just wouldn’t shut off, it kept yapping with plans and thoughts of being attacked. Amelia had told me earlier about the photo and if she was right about the reason why Kelvin’s mood was in a ditch, it scared me too.Just how much were we being watched? And what exactly did they want from us?My mind wandered to Ricardo that was starting to take a little more than necessary space in my head. He had looked so hot in the gym today and I know he was just supposed to be an occasional fling and we had been having more sex recently, but I really did not mind. With a huff, I swung my feet off the bed and padded down the hall. The estate was quiet, but not silent, some guards shifted outside and someone coughed from the kitchen. When I stopped outside Ricardo’s door, I told myself I was only checking on him. A totally innocent move, I wante
