Julian's POV From that tiny kitchen, I could still hear the giggles of Maximilian and Vivienne in the living room. At times it was mixed with Max's never-ending talk, at other times with Vivienne's gentle replies. Those sounds made my steps feel more light, even if my mind was full still.I opened the food bag and started to pull out the stuff one by one. Chicken, vegetables, and a thing I looked for longer time before, ginseng. I looked at the little root in my hand for a moment. “I hope this helps,” I murmured quietly.I am not a chef. I never thought I would be in the kitchen like this, making meals with so much thought. Now everything seems changed. This is not only about cooking it is about helping someone stay strong.I put the ginseng next to the cutting board, looking at it now and then like I wanted to be sure it was real. It felt odd to count on something I did not totally get. Still if there was even a tiny chance it could help Vivienne,

Julian's POV Maximilian stood there for a bit, looking, then said “I will go take care of the Mom again”“Alright. Stay close to her.”He nodded and ran back to the living room.I was by myself in the kitchen again, the fire was still on. The soup cooked softly, its nice smell filling up the air.I mixed it again, slower now. In the stillness, I saw something.I can’t mend all that has gone on. I can't wipe away the hurt, switch the past, or freeze time. But at least I could still do this.Cook, Care and Try.Maybe for now, that was enough.I saw the pot in front of me and took a deep breath.“Hold on, Vivienne,” I whispered. The smell of the ginseng chicken soup filled all the flat. Warm, soft and kind of cozy. I turned off the stove and poured the soup into bowls making sure it was not too warm.“Time to eat,” I called from the kitchen. It did not take much time for

Vivienne's POV Maximilian jumped into my arms right away, his little body warm and light. I held him close, like that could make time slow down.“I’m happy today,” he said suddenly.I stroked his back gently. “Me too.”“We have to eat with each other, play with each other. Dad is here too.” He raised his face to look at me. “Tomorrow will be like this as well right”The query was easy. But the reply wasn't ever that way.I took a breath for a bit, then grinned gently. “We will try, alright, sweetheart?”He nodded, satisfied, as if that was enough.Behind us, the noise of flowing water kept coming from the kitchen. Julian was cleaning dishes. The noise came back in a beat, like a backdrop to this little moment we were living.I turned my head slightly toward the kitchen.I Looking at his back Watching how he stayed there doing easy stuff he may not have done before There was a feeling in my che

Vivienne's POV That evening was meant to be the quietest night we’d had in a long while. Maximilian was asleep next to me, his head on my arm, his breath soft and warm.I softly touched his hair for a bit, enjoying the rare calm. From the front room, I could hear Julian's steady breaths while he slept on the couch, slow and smooth like he could finally relax after weeks of stress.I closed my eyes. But not long after, something hit my head.Like a brutal blow from inside my own skull.I jolted, my eyes flying open. The hurt didn’t feel like a usual headache. It felt like something was holding my head and squeezing it from all sides.“Ah-” a tiny noise came out of me without me meaning to as my hand shot to the side of my head.Pain.So much pain.It was like shocks of energy going from the back of my head to my sides. My breath got stuck, and my whole body went tight. I tried to get up, but the room whirled fast, almost making me drop onto Maximilian.“Oh God ”I bit my lip strong, t

Vivienne's POV Something inside my chest hurt in a way.I opened my eyes a bit wider. Looked at his face so close to mine. His hair was messy. He looked exhausted, scared and still here.He was still holding me like I was the important thing in the world.“Julian." I whispered.“Yes?”My words got stuck in my throat as another sharp pain hit my head.“I’m scared." His face immediately changed. He gently pressed his forehead against mine, his breathing warm but shaky.“Don’t be scared." he whispered quickly. "I’m not leaving you. No matter what happens I’m staying here with you, Vivienne.”Tears slid down my face again.I wanted to believe Julian. My body felt stranger by the second.I felt weak. This pain didn't feel normal anymore Vivienne.Julian looked at me for a few seconds before finally
