Lyssa’s POV Soon, the same waiter approaches my table again with a polite smile. “Miss, are you ready to order something more?” he asks gently. I glance down at the menu again, pretending to think, even though my mind is nowhere near the food. My eyes skim over the list of items, grilled chicken sandwich, creamy pasta, vegetable salad but nothing truly registers. “Um…” I hesitate. “Maybe just a—” Before I can finish the sentence, I feel a pair of eyes on me. I instinctively look up. Across the room, Mom’s gaze has drifted in my direction, and the moment our eyes meet, the surprise on her face is immediate and obvious. Her mouth opens slightly. “Lyssa?” she calls out loudly, her voice carrying across the lounge. My heart drops. “Oh!
