CHAPTER 91 Scarlett “Do you think this is a joke?” Aldric asked, his tears dripping on my arm as he held it. At that moment I was just so confused. I couldn't understand what he was trying to say. I wanted to be harsh but the rudeness in me just melted. “Aldric, what are you doing?" I asked swallowing hard. “That's not important Scarlett. You need to believe me when I tell you that I'm not getting married. Do you really think I would ever pick another woman over you?!" he asked, his tone dead serious. “Al…Aldric please. You don't have to do this. I completely understand and respect your decision. You—" “I love you Scarlett. And it pains me to see you around all those men. I know they are your business partners but today…today hurted me deeply. Aren't you feeling the same way?” he asked and the amount of shock I had just wouldn't allow me to admit it. “You're mistaken OK. I'm not that type of woman. I mean I don't look at you in that way. You're my friend, and that's it, Aldri

CHAPTER 93Scarlett The meeting went on, and Aldric was just acting as if nothing had happened the previous day. But the fact that he was making sure to be cold towards me was something I couldn't deny.“Is everything OK?" Damien asked with a smile.“Yes, I can assure you that," I responded. The moment the meeting finished I was about to walk out when Aldric called me back. Jenny was about to attend to him but I just needed to talk to him.“Yes?" I walked towards him.“I've renewed a few things in our contracts and would like you to go through them and sign, or let me know if anything doesn't sit well with you, ma'am," he said, handing the contract to me, but that wasn't like him.“Is it because of what happened yesterday? Look, I'm sorry, OK. It was just a little too fast and—”"No it's not. That's the past and we shouldn't be going back to history. This is something very important, and we as business partners should be transparent about everything, right?” he cut me off.“Yes, you

CHAPTER 95Scarlett I was just so fed up with the way Nia was smiling at Aldric. If only there were a way I could stop her or something, I would have done so. She wasn't even supposed to be in that meeting at all.Could Aldric have brought her to make me jealous? No, there's no way he would want to do that. I was Scarlett Brown. I made my way outside during the break and then went to the restroom. While I was washing my hands at the tap Nia walked in.“Hey, that was fast," she said, looking at my hands, but I just shook my head and was about to walk out when she asked a silly question.“Are you jealous?" Nia asked.“Of you?" “Yes, I mean. I could see how uncomfortable you got in there Scarlett. Is there something you're trying to hide?" " I don't know, but do tell me when you figure it out, OK. And please stop being my tale I'm sure you can shine on your own,” I said and then walked away.Just as I was about to reach the boardroom I ran into Daniel Cross. I swear I was about to wa

CHAPTER 97Aldric I got out of bed and then went to take a shower before heading downstairs. I told the maid that I would eat at the office so there was no need for breakfast.“Would you like me to carry a blazer?" Nia asked.“No, I'll be fine. And you don't have to come today. I'll have everything handled by my PA," I answered since I still had to get over the way I abandoned her on the altar in the dream.“Are you sure Sir?" “Yes, Nia. You can keep yourself busy around here or go home," I responded."OK Sir have a good day and don't hesitate if—”"That won't be necessary, Nia. I've got him,” my PA cut her off.I felt relieved as I got into the car and asked the driver to take me to Scarlett's mansion. There was just no way I would let her withdraw. She's everything I need and I wouldn't have the taste I'm trending for without Scarlett."Maybe I should talk to her sir," my PA suggested.“That won't be necessary. I'll talk to her." “Alright, sir." We kept talking about different t

CHAPTER 99Scarlett I took a seat on my bed after locking the door as if Aldric was going to follow me. I watched him leave with his motorcade and placed my thumb on my lips. They were still wet from the kiss, and Aldric's fragrance was the strongest I've ever sensed on a man. It was dark and commanding.Out of all the things we could have done, a kiss was the last I expected this soon. Wait, did I say soon?I secretly waited for it and he finally took the initiative. It was obvious we both wanted the same thing when he pulled me into his muscular arms. Goodness, that was nothing compared to anything I've ever felt.It was as if that kiss just fulfilled everything I've been missing for the past four years. I walked towards my mirror and smiled at my reflection before Zoe knocked at my door.I knew she had come to eat me alive, so I lied about being busy, but she wasn't going to go away until I opened and she walked in.“Where's Aldric?" she looked around.“Agh, please don't start,"
