Alle Kapitel von His Rejected Wife, the Billionaire’s New Desire: Kapitel 71 – Kapitel 80

SOPHIA It had been three days since the fight with Adrian. Three days since Adrian and I stood in the same room. Three days since the argument that hadn’t ended in more silence.Ollie had resumed at his new school. With the money Glamour galore paid me, I decided to take back control of one aspect of my life. Marc wouldn’t be able to get Ollie into his new school. The only thing left was getting a place for Ollie and me. The registration cost more than I expected. Marc had always handled the fees, so I didn’t realize it could be that high for a kid of Ollie’s age. I would have gone back to Floral because her house was always open to me, but I was tired of relying on others. Once I left here, it was straight to my own apartment. I stood in front of the

SOPHIA I’d lost interest in working, but I forced myself to keep going. My pencil moved over the sketchbook, a new design forming on the page. A groan shot out of my lips when the pencil diverted to the left, ruining the design. I yanked the page off the book, bunched it, and tossed it to the floor, where a small pile had already formed. I could take a break, but working was the only way to keep myself from overthinking everything. Adrian and I still hadn’t spoken. But I did whatever was needed to keep me out of his way. And so far, he’d stayed away. A small sigh slid past my lips. I pushed those thoughts aside and tried to focus on the sketchbook, but my mind drifted to something else. Christopher's invitation.

SOPHIA I didn’t realize how much the divorce had been weighing me down until the weight disappeared. After appending my signature on those papers, something in me loosened. With each breath I took, my chest expanded more easily, and my smile came more frequent. I slept without worries. Marc was finally, legally, behind me. And for the first time in a long while, my past didn’t feel like it was chasing me.The shift was so profound that it reflected in my work. Ideas came pouring in. Designs were approved. Christopher must have also sensed the shift because he didn’t contact me again. Even Adrian seemed to have gotten a break from him. Though Christopher stopped showing up at the office, we knew he wasn&rsq

SOPHIA The morning after the proposal came too quickly. I woke up with a smile, my eyes going to my ring, and my fingers brushing it like it might disappear if I didn’t touch it. The diamond caught the early light, sharp and unapologetic.Giggles built in my chest, and I buried my face in the pillow to keep the sound down. Adrian was still asleep beside me, his arm heavy around my waist, and his breathing slow and even. He looked settled, and certain, like a man who had already decided the shape of his future and was waiting for the world to catch up.Last night was nothing short of perfect. Floral’s advice to “dress nice” suddenly made sense. Thank goodness I hadn’t argued with her and did as she advised. Thinking about her smile when Adrian and I returned to the bar only made my cheeks grow warm. I w

SOPHIA Given how the last meeting with Adrian’s parents went, I wasn’t too thrilled about seeing them again. It would be a step in the right direction. But at the same time, I couldn’t shake off the feeling that I was walking into an assessment that would be worse than the last one I experienced. For Adrian’s sake, I hoped I wouldn’t fail this time. Dread curled in my lower belly as the car drew closer. My fingers twitched, and Adrian’s hand slipped into mine to calm me. I tried to smile so he wouldn’t be worried, but it was hard. Their house was immaculate in the way only old money ever was. Modern design mixed well with old architecture. Nothing was flashy or out of place. Everything was good. I had been here before, but it didn’t dull the charm one bit.
