Charles Her hands moved slowly and she grabbed the spoon. She began to eat. Very slowly. I watched her. I wished everything could just be okay. I wished she'd just be okay. She ate just a little portion and I helped her cover the rest of the meal. As I did, she kept on licking ice cream, obviously enjoying it from the look on her face. I was fucking tired of staying in the garden. I didn't understand why she liked it here. The doors opened and Lily walked from the aisle towards us. “Oh, you two. Why garden?” She placed her hands on the table. I sighed. “I tried, She doesn't want to leave the garden.” “Really?” Lily faced her, then me again. “I don't know. She's been like that. Always sitting here but I've never seen her eat here before.” Lily placed one hand on Darcie's arm. “Hey.” Her voice was gentle. “Darcie, can you come inside? Please. Come on, I know you love it here but it's more comfortable inside.”I don't think it would work. She didn't agree. Suddenly Darcie nodded her

Charles The house was quiet when I got home. I just came back from Sloane's house and handed her the things she'd requested. Then I went upstairs to sleep straight. I was too tired to scroll through my phone. All I wanted to do was rest. Morning came fast. I don't think I was supposed to be awake but my phone buzzed and rang countless times. I was already enjoying my sleep. I groaned and checked my phone. Sloane, 3 missed calls. 7 messages. Where are you?I need you to come.Don’t ignore me CharlesMy face contorted as I read through the message. This early morning? I switched the phone to DND and the phone on the bed. I’d already stopped by yesterday. Dropped off what I promised. Groceries. Vitamins. Money. Now she wanted me there too. So weird of her. I closed my eyes and continued sleeping but the image of Darcie came up. Now that I couldn't go back to sleep, I yawned and opened my eyes. Then I grabbed my phone again. I began to reply to all of Sloane's texts. Before Lily,

Charles Sloane began to yawn. And she couldn't hold the spoon still. Her eyes were already dropping. She muttered and yawned again. “I didn't sleep well last night. I'm tired of eating.” I set the bowl away and Sloane had already positioned herself on the bed. Laying back on the pillows. Her breathing slowed. I turned to Lily and she nodded. She unzipped her bag and wore gloves, followed by a Doppler. Then a BP cuff, a small bottle of gel and some wipes. She laid everything on the towel she’d put on the bed.I just focused on everything she was doing. My chest began to pound. Lily pulled the blanket down just enough to see Sloane’s stomach. She put on gloves, then squirted gel on Sloane’s belly. Sloane shifted but didn’t wake up. She turned the doppler on. The small machine beeped and the probe moved in slow circles.I couldn't stay calm. “Anything?” I whispered. She frowned. “Hold on. I'm still checking the volume.”She turned it off and wiped the gel. Then shook her head. “Not

Charles “No. She didn't.” Darcie says. “Are you serious?” My thumb brushed through her teary face. “Yes. She was just being foolish.” I sighed. “I'm sorry for everything.” I hugged her and she wrapped her hands around my waist. “So, what now, Charles?” She pulled away slowly and stared at me. “What's going to happen now?”My neck dropped to the floor. Because honestly, I don't know what's going to happen next. “Is there still hope for us? I can't keep hiding.”“You can't keep hiding. So? Where do you want to go? Don't you understand that you're safe here?” my shoulders went tight. “Even though. I can't keep hiding all my life.”“I'm trying to figure out what to do next. It's just not easy. Especially with the kind of family I have.” She nodded. “Okay.”“You still love me, right?” my heart raced. “I don't know if I should say yes because us being together is nothing but danger. Let's go inside first.” She turned and walked away. I followed her in. The warmth of the house greeted

Darcie The room was very good. As soon as we settled in, I went to the balcony. The sight outside was very beautiful..The sky had turned a deep blue gray, with the last traces of daylight fading behind the buildings. I placed my hands on the railing and looked down, cars were parked and some staff moved around. Then I looked up, streetlights flickered. A light drizzle had started, tapping against the windows. It seemed it would rain. It looked aesthetically pleasing like there would be peace here but I didn't want to be here. Right place, wrong timing. I would love to be alone here but I have to find out about dad's death even if it meant taking risks. That thought had been sitting heavily in my chest since the moment Charles had told me I couldn't return to the mansion. I understood why he was doing it. He was trying to protect me. He wanted to keep me safe. But being hidden away in a hotel room felt like another kind of imprisonment.Charles dropped his phone and finally looked
