BellaIt had only been a few days since our wedding, but the house already felt different warmer, fuller, more ours. I woke up tangled in Alex’s arms, my body still deliciously sore from the many passionate nights we had shared since saying “I do.” He kissed my shoulder lazily, murmuring good morning against my skin, and for a moment I let myself sink into the bliss of being his wife. We made love again that morning slow and tender at first, then urgent and deep losing ourselves in each other like we couldn’t get enough. But even as I lay there afterward, catching my breath with my head on his chest, a quiet ache settled in my heart. I missed my children. Terribly.Emily’s laughter and Amie’s soft coos had become such a constant part of my days that their absence left a noticeable silence in the house. As much as I cherished this honeymoon bubble with Alex, my arms felt empty without Amie, and the house felt too quiet without Emily’s footsteps.“I miss them,” I whispered against Alex’

BellaI woke up to the soft glow of morning light filtering through the curtains, Alex’s arm still draped warmly around my waist. Two weeks into marriage and I still caught myself smiling like a lovesick teenager every time I remembered I was his wife. I carefully slipped out of bed, not wanting to wake him just yet, and padded downstairs in my robe. The house was quiet except for the gentle hum of the refrigerator. I started the coffee maker first. Alex liked his strong and black then moved on to breakfast. Eggs, toast, fresh fruit, and a little oatmeal for Amie later. While everything cooked, I packed Emily’s lunch: a sandwich with her favorite turkey and cheese, apple slices, a cookie, and a small note that said “Have a great day, sweetheart! Love, Mommy.”I was still getting used to signing things that way. Mommy. Wife. Mrs. Reed. Each one felt like a beautiful new identity I was growing into.Alex came downstairs a little while later, already dressed for work in a crisp shirt an

BellaThe next day the house was quiet in that peaceful late-afternoon way. Alex was at work, Emily was still at school, and Amie had finally drifted off for her nap in her rocker in the living room. I was in the kitchen washing the last of the breakfast plates when I heard the knock at the front door.My heart jumped. I quickly rinsed my hands, dried them on a towel, and hurried to open it.Mia stood there, looking smaller than usual, her eyes tired but determined. Before she could even step inside or say hello, I pulled her into a tight hug, holding her as if I could squeeze all the pain out of her.“I love you so much,” I whispered fiercely into her hair. “I’m so sorry I wasn’t there for you when you needed me most. I hate that you went through all of that alone.”Mia hugged me back just as tightly, her voice muffled against my shoulder. “Bella, stop. You have nothing to be sorry for. You were fighting your own battles. You were there for me in so many other ways. I don’t hold any

Bella Monday morning arrived with a nervous flutter in my stomach that I hadn’t felt in a long time. I woke up before the alarm, slipping quietly out of bed so I wouldn’t wake Alex. The house was still dark and peaceful, but my mind was already racing. Today was my first day back at the office. A big step. I wanted everything to go smoothly for the girls.I started in the kitchen, moving on autopilot but with extra care. I packed Emily’s lunch: her favorite turkey sandwich, apple slices, a small bag of grapes, and a cookie. I added a little note that read, “Have the best day, my smart girl! Mommy loves you.” Then I prepared Amie’s bag extra clothes, diapers, her special formula and meals, her favorite blanket, and a list of instructions for Mom. My hands moved quickly, but my heart felt heavy with that familiar mix of excitement and reluctance.By the time I finished, Alex was already downstairs, dressed and looking handsome in his suit. He smiled when he saw me and pulled me into a

BellaTwo weeks had passed since I returned to the office, and life had settled into a rhythm that felt surprisingly sustainable.Mornings were still a beautiful kind of chaos packing lunches, dropping Amie at my parents’ house, hugging Emily before the school bus came. Evenings brought the girls home, Alex walking through the door, and the four of us becoming a family again under one roof. So far, everything was thriving. Amie hadn’t had any surprise hospital visits. Emily actually looked forward to her time at Grandma’s. Alex and I were stronger than ever. And my father… he couldn’t have been prouder. This particular Monday started like the others, but by mid-morning the energy in the office shifted. I had a big meeting scheduled with a potential high-value client Mr. Adeyemi, a businessman from Nigeria with multiple commercial buildings, investment accounts, and a growing portfolio. Sarah had prepped me well, but my nerves still buzzed as I gathered my files and PowerPoint slides.W
