Luca's POV That was it. I knew. I knew my father would go ahead with his promise. I hadn't found a mate. At least to the best of his knowledge. The bed creaked as I lowered myself into it, tired and frustrated. I had to go find her—the girl that I had saved in the woods that night. My mate. But I needed to rest. My whole body ached. My eyes burned from staying awake all night. But sleep eluded me. I tossed around in my bed restlessly. My eyes stared at the clock. 2:08 P.M. When did it get so late?“We should go look for her. Now.”It was my wolf, Zak.“Remember how you didn't want her? Because she had no wolf?” I reminded him.“How do you think your father would have liked her if you had brought her home that night?” he purred in my head.He was right. My father would have been against it. He wouldn't hear of it. His only son and heir mated to a wolf-less girl. But right now, I had no choice. I had to show him I had a mate. I had been mated to a wolfless girl and I needed him to se

Laura's POV My head ached. Did I hit it? I had no idea. I couldn't remember what had happened. The lavender scent of my bedsheets filtered into my nose as I stirred. The soft pattering of rain on the roof filled me with a nostalgic longing. Soft. Cool. Welcoming. I felt oddly at peace. Something tugged at the back of my mind like a pup tugging its mother's fingers. I was forgetting something.A sigh slipped through my lips as my eyes opened. A whiff of cold air seeped through the window biting my exposed skin.“What the hell…?”I was naked. Why was I naked? My hands instinctively reached for the other side of the bed. There was no one with me. Thank Goddess. I was alone.Slowly, my memory returned in scattered pieces. I remembered even more as the time ticked by slowly. How did I get home? How was I on my bed? The last thing I remembered was the woods. Jenine. She had a lot of explaining to do.I rolled out of bed with purpose, slipping my feet into the pair of slippers that lay at t

“Jenine, come on.”“Almost done,” she croaked.Something clattered on the floor.“You alright there?”“Yeah, coming.” She appeared through the door. The sports bra and joggers she wore gave her a highschool athlete look. Her hair was tied into a neat bun over her head. She held a red book and a pen.Laura's gaze swept over her.“What's that in your hand?”“My diary?”Laura's eyes flicked from Jenine's face to the book in her hand and back to her face.“Why do you need a diary for…” she sighed. “You know what? I'm not even going to ask. Let's just go. You have a lot to learn.”Their feet thudded the wooden floor board as they walked down. Laura wore the same thing as Jenine—sports bra, joggers, hiking boots. Only her hair wasn't tied in a bun. A headband passed around her short hair keeping them in place. It was still morning. The heat from the sun—warm and soothing—caressed rather than burned against their skins. They came up to the wide expanse of grassland. The perfect place.“Take

Jenine's POV I didn't know how to feel. I was under the protection of the Alpha. In his house. The way his eyes bore down on me sent chills down my spine. He had tried to ask questions about what happened and how Laura got so badly injured but I'd been too shaken to speak. The only thing that brought me succor was that Laura was having the best medical attention anyone could get. At least that's what I thought.“You shouldn't be here,” the woman I'm thinking was the chief healer grumbled as I barged into the room. She was short and round and the hair on her head had patches of white in them. Her palms were hidden in surgical gloves, a pair of glasses settled on her wide nose.“I know. I…”“Elisha, get her away from here,” she cut me off. “Now!” She turned to one of her assistants. “Scalpel.”The young girl handed her the knife from a tray.“Come on, Jenine,” Elisha held my arm. “Let's go.”“I'm not leaving until I'm sure she's fine,” I brushed his hand off. “Have you tried…”“I don't

It was at that point I woke up. I wonder for how long I'll keep having these dreams. Recently, they seem to have increased. I had tried to talk to my mum about them when she still lived but she'd always waved them aside.I still miss her. If only I hadn't forgotten the grocery, she wouldn't have gone back to the store. The guilt still haunts me till now.Dew said I had to let it go. She'd said what happened was not in any way my fault. That's all for now, dear diary. Till next time.”Jenine closed the diary. Her fingers traced the intricate designs and letterings. It had been a long time since she last wrote in it. The day before her mum had died. Her pen drummed gently on its dark red cover as she stared blankly at the wall. She shook her head as a shudder passed through her body. Her eyes went to the windows. It was a windy night. The curtains swayed like swans on a lake. She tossed the diary onto the bed. Her head felt light as she walked to the window, drawing the curtains shut.
