It hurt so much. My breathing became ragged as wave after wave of agony shot through my body. "W-Why...?" My fingers dug into my shoulder. There was no wound. No blood either. Then why did it feel like I'd been struck? My eyes lifted to look at him. The black wolf staggered away from me, a silver arrow buried deep in his shoulder. Instead, a chilling howl shattered the silence. Every wolf in the valley froze. Another howl answered it. Then another. Garrick's head snapped toward the northern border. "Invasion!" Within seconds, rogue warriors poured from their cabins, weapons drawn. Others shifted into massive wolves, their snarls echoing through the valley as they rushed toward the entrance. Beyond the treeline stood nearly twenty wolves. Their fur was darker than night, their eyes wild with bloodlust.
