Wren's POV“You wench!” a hand grabbed a fistful of my hair so hard, my scalp burned. My brain had barely processed what was happening when a slap landed across my cheeks. “You've been hiding here while there's work to do?!” Patricia, my father's wife sneered, pulling my hair harder, and making me stumble back and fall on my butt.“I wasn't hiding,” I managed to say.“Weren't you?” She arched a brow, and shoved me forward, my head hitting my mother's headstone, drawing blood immediately. “Then perhaps you've forgotten what today is.” “It's…m-my birthday,” I said, turning to look at her with blood trickling down my forehead.Patricia stared at me for two wild seconds before bursting out laughing like I said something funny.“Oh well,” she took a step forward, and cupped my cheeks. “Today isn't about your miserable existence,” she dug her nails deep into my skin. “My princess is coming home today with her boyfriend…”Right. How could I have forgotten? My step older sister, Selene, who w

Wren’s POV“You filthy disgusting bitch!” Selene’s screech as she barged into my room, pouncing on me before I could even get my bearings. I threw my hands up on instinct as Selene pulled my hair, clawed at my face and literally everywhere she could lay her hands on with all the strength she had.“You couldn't even wait for one whole day!”she yelled. “How shameless can you be?!” “What's this crazy bitch on about so early in the morning?” Astra stirred awake.“What in the world is going on here!” My father's voice boomed from the doorway, stopping Selene for half a second, and I took the opportunity to get as far away from her as possible, rolling off the bed, and standing at the other end.And that's when I noticed Patricia and my mate, Allen were also here.“This shameless whore spread her legs for my boyfriend,” Selene revealed in tears. “I smelled her on him.”Great. Just what I needed first thing in the morning.“Why am I not surprised?” Patricia scoffed in disgust, as she cross

Cyrus's POVSome people count sheep when they can't sleep. I hunt.It was the third night in a row that sleep had refused to come, and I couldn't tell why. My body was tired, my mind was tired, but beneath my skin there was this itch I couldn't scratch, like something was waiting for me out there in the dark."Restless," my wolf, Dawn muttered through the mindlink, pacing at the back of my mind for the hundredth time. "You're restless.""Thank you for the update," I replied dryly. "I hadn't noticed."He huffed and said nothing else, which was unusual for him. Dawn was never quiet. But tonight he was watching, waiting, and I didn't have the patience to ask what for.So I grabbed my bow and headed into the woods, and of course, Simon tagged along. He claimed it was because he needed the exercise. I knew it was because he didn't trust me alone out here when I was in a mood."On your left," Simon whispered, pointing between the trees. "Twenty feet. It's a buck."I saw it right away.

Wren's POVI woke up feeling safe. Eyes closed, and wrapped in comfortable blankets, but overall I felt safe. Which should have been my cue that something wasn't right. But being in a constant state of uncertainty for so long I couldn’t help but bask in this feeling of safety, and just let myself be.A sharp pain shot through the back of my head and my last memory came crashing down like a tidal wave.“Astra,” I called through the mind link, my eyes flying open, panic clawing up my throat.“I'm here,” she responded weakly, and I let out a breath I didn't realize I was holding.Astra was still here. She was alive, and that's more than I could ask for.As the panic reduced, my brain finally registered my environment.A cabin. A room with minimal furniture, but still a cabin. And definitely not a place I recognise. Then I remembered the boot, and the voice just before Astra and I went completely under after getting hit by an arrow from goddess knows where. The memory seemed to kickstart

WREN'S POVOh, no.Patricia's eyes snapped open, and for one terrifying second, her expression remained calm."Male," she said softly. "That's a male scent. It's not from a pack member nor anyone I know." She lifted her gaze to mine. "Cedar, and rain.” "It's not what you think," I said."Oh really?" Patricia asked with a smirk. “Do you take me for a fool child?” "I was shot. Someone found me in the woods, they only wanted to help…""Shot?" Patricia let out a short, ugly laugh. "You're dressed in a man's clothes. You smell like him and the first thing you do when you come crawling home is tell us a story about poison.""It's the truth!""Don't you dare lie to me!" Patricia hissed, and her hand shot out.She grabbed my chin and squeezed so hard I felt my teeth grind. "I knew it. I knew it from the moment you were born. Your mother spread her legs for anyone who asked, and you've gone and done the same. You've been out sleeping around like a stray, while this family searched for you
