Life in prison was anything but easy.On my second day behind bars, a new inmate who ran the cell block showed up. He grabbed me by the head and pinned my face against the floor. The stench of urine burned my nose.In a menacing tone, he said, "You're Matthew Jensen, aren't you?"He planted his foot on the back of my hand and ground it into the floor. "Someone paid us to make sure those pretty eyes of yours never see daylight again."I stared at him in terror. "Who? I'm taking the blame for Seth—""The precious little son of the Ingram family, of course."The man held up a toothbrush handle he'd sharpened to a point with a vicious grin on his face. "He said if you're ruined in here, you'd never be able to compete with him again."A searing pain exploded through my head. I screamed and curled up on the floor, writhing in agony. Blood poured from my left eye until it became nothing but a mangled mass of flesh. The prison clinic gave me some rushed treatment afterward and removed

The night of the charity gala arrived.Seth was dressed in a designer tuxedo, with a black diamond bracelet fastened around his wrist.Three years ago, Sheryl had won it at auction as a coming-of-age gift for me. Now, it rested around Seth's wrist and gave off an understated glimmer when the light hit the beads at certain angles.I stood beside him in a cheap, ill-fitting suit with my head lowered. Sheryl had given me the bank card, but Seth had cheerfully snatched it away the moment she turned her back."Matthew just got out of prison," he said. "He doesn't know anything about current fashion. What if he buys the wrong piece and people laugh at him? It's just a simple thing. We can have one of the household staff take care of it."He sounded considerate enough. But then, he gave one of the maids a knowing look.In our household, the maids survived by reading the room. There was no way they were going to put any real effort into helping me. When they tossed me the suit, they hadn

In the video, Seth sat curled up on a couch, reeking of alcohol, while Isabella stood beside him and spoke to me coldly."Have Matthew take the blame… Seth isn't in good health. He wouldn't survive a place like prison. You're stronger, and you've been through hardships before. Just endure it for a while, and it'll be over… If you confess and take the blame, I'll still marry you when you get out."The guests present cried out in shock and disbelief."Oh my God! So the drunk-driving accident was actually a cover-up?""That's disgusting! They forced the true heir to go to prison just to protect their adopted son!""And she said he was strong enough to handle it… She sent him to prison! What kind of monster says something like that?"Isabella stared at the giant screen in horror, her face deathly pale. She screamed at the staff nearby, "Turn it off! Turn it off right now! Who put this video on? Shut it down!" Seth was even more terrified. He bolted for the stage and tried to yank

I said solemnly, "You say the video is fake, and that I bullied Seth, right? Then what about this?"I opened another folder. It contained something Seth had never imagined I'd kept, which was an even more damning recording. It was from three years ago, when Seth came to visit me in prison, convinced he'd already won. He'd told me everything himself. His voice in the recording was arrogant and savage."Matthew, you really think Sheryl and Isabella love you? Keep dreaming. In their eyes, you're nothing more than a tool they can use to take the fall for me. Once you're locked up, I'll make sure you're well taken care of. Especially those eyes of yours. They really piss me off. "I'll have someone gouge them out and kick them around like balls. Just rot in here. Everything that belongs to the Ingram family, as well as Isabella, will always be mine!"Everyone in the ballroom exclaimed in shock.Isabella stood frozen, too stunned to speak. Her wineglass slipped from her hand and shatt

Sheryl stared at the news alert and shook her head frantically while mumbling, "No… No, this can't be…"She clutched her head and broke down sobbing. "Matthew, I didn't know… I had no idea! If I'd known—"Gabriel cut off her confession coldly. "If you'd known, would you have believed him? No, I think you wouldn't. You would've told Matthew to endure it again for your precious little Seth."Sheryl fell silent. Her face paled, and she couldn't utter another word.Isabella looked equally devastated. She reached out to me, but I immediately shook her off.She apologized, "Matthew, I… I'm sorry. I'll make it up to you. I'll take you to the best doctors…""Make it up to me?" I pointed to my lifeless prosthetic eye. "Can you make this eye grow back?"Then, I pointed toward the sky. "Can you bring Bruce back to life? Your apologies aren't worth a damn."I turned and refused to look at these repulsive people again. Gabriel supported my unsteady body and led me away. After that night, t
