Chapter One
DORINE'S POV    ¶ By the power vested in me, I pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride,” the priest officiating the ceremony, instructed.  At this point, my heart began beating faster. I had the chance to put a stop to this, but I failed to. Now, it was too late to do anything. I could have stopped the ceremony and spoken the truth, I should have given Matthew a chance to make the decision that would affect his life.  If only I was not much of a coward to come clean.  I was so lost in thought that I did not realize the moment his lips touched mine, sealing our relationship forever. I gazed around like a robot going through the motions until Rita, my chief bridesmaid gestured to the forlorn look on my face, that I had to smile.  Just a few people could make it to the ceremony, and I liked it that way. Most of them were Matthew's friends and business part

And after all, what's a lie? Tis but the truth in masquerade." -Unknown ... "No ma, no be how much I de sell am," (no ma, that's not how much I can sell it) the dark tall and slim Hausa trader spoke to Doris and Martha in pidgin with thick Hausa accent dripping as he spoke.  "Ok, give us for one thousand five hundred naira..." (Give it to us at the price of one thousand five hundred naira) Martha tried bargaining with him.  Doris was getting tired of standing in the hot sun, surrounded by all kinds of people who are either buying or selling, the noises emanating from the various kiosk located around the market. Sooner or later she would lose her patience and speak badly to the trader or Martha, she wasn't enjoying this market spree but she couldn't voice out her mind. They have been in the market for close to two hours now and on the list-for-things-to-buy, she was holding in her left hand, they have only been able to buy fiv

Chapter Three
Both Martha and Doris were exhausted after walking around in the busy market almost all day.                                      Having decided that it was better to go home and get started on dinner, Martha hand-selected some things off the list, and immediately they made their way back home. Doris planned to get a good rest before Dorine could come back so she could get back to the daily hustle of her life however, it appeared that Martha had other plans in mind.  "Since it's your first day with your new family, why don't you prepare dinner for us? I'm sure you will have a great idea of what to come up with"  The revelation had the younger woman's eyes almost falling out of her socket. 'Was this her idea of a joke? Could she read my mind and know that I do not have the slightest idea of cooking.' She thought.

Her hands were getting cold and wet by the second that passed, with each question thrown at her. She felt like she was going to pee on her panties soon. She lost the appetite to continue the food that was placed before her, but it wasn't like she had an appetite in the first place. She made bad food; such that if she ate it in a restaurant she would have lashed out at the cook for putting her money to waste.  "What did you study in school and what was your inspiration to study it?" Matthew's mother continued throwing unending questions her way.  "Uhm...I studied Business Administration at the University of Benin. I wanted to go into fashion and design but it wasn't easy for me. I love fabrics and clothing materials and styles and colors because...well...my mother used to be into that field and she was my source of inspiration." Though Doris never planned to be emotional about it, the thought of who their parents were in th

Every time you lie, it brings me closer to goodbye ." -Unknown ★ 'D! Wake up D..' The voice sounded so close but she could not see anyone, the entire place was dark. Suddenly, she felt her body move a little and forced her eyes open. Gradually, she adjusted her eyes to the bright light and looked up at the shadow before her.  The blurry and bright light before her slowly took an actual form. It was then Doris noticed that she was still seated on the same spot on the sofa, she probably slept off waiting for Dorine's call. Matthew was hunched over her, his face filled with so much concern while he stared intently at her sprawled form. "Hey, I know you are probably very tired from the events of the past few days but I don't think sleeping on the couch would make it better," he said, pulling her body to an upright position.  Doris grabbed the phone which was stuck in-between the couch; it must have f

Matthew and his father left to pick up the ones who do not know their way to the location of the house, while Doris and her mother in-law had to rush off to the market to buy some things. As expected, Doris wasn't happy with the turn of events.
