Oh, the Harry-is-Lord-Potter tournament fics. A classic guilty pleasure. Honestly, a lot of the absolute peak examples of this niche live on the web novel platforms like Webnovel now, not the traditional fanfic sites. They've got that serialized, chapter-a-day feel with power progression systems that fit the 'Lord' trope like a glove. The writing can be... variable, but the sheer quantity and the regular updates are hard to beat if you're in the mood for that specific flavor.
You'll find some on Wattpad too, but the tagging is a nightmare and the quality bar is even more of a rollercoaster. I dipped in there once looking for a good tournament arc and got buried in one-sentence paragraphs and weird formatting. I'd steer clear unless you're very patient.
For me, the purest, most polished versions are still on AO3, but the vibe is different—more about politics than raw power leveling. So it depends what you want from the 'Lord' title.

It can be tricky to pinpoint a single 'best' because the quality and volume of these specific fics varies wildly across sites and depends on your tolerance for certain tropes. AO3 probably has the highest concentration of well-written 'Lord Potter' tournament fics, purely due to its tagging system. You can filter for 'Triwizard Tournament,' 'Lord Potter,' and maybe 'Wizengamot' and find exactly what you're craving without wading through unrelated content.
That said, I've read some absolute gems on FanFiction.net from authors who've been posting there for over a decade. The plots can be more formulaic—Gringotts inheritance test, massive wealth, political alliances—but there's a comfort in that familiar structure. The real issue on FFN is the lack of filtering, so you'll burn time clicking through summaries. Some newer writers seem to be cross-posting on both, so checking both might be necessary.
My advice is to hit up AO3 for discovery and refined searches, but keep an FFN tab open for those older, long-running epics that never migrated. The good ones make the political maneuvering feel fresh, even if the 'Lord' premise is classic.

AO3, hands down. The tagging lets you combine 'Harry Potter/Triwizard Tournament' with 'Nobility' or 'Wizengamot' and filter out the stuff you don't want. Found a fantastic slow-burn political drama there where the tournament was just the setting for the Lordship plot. FFN has them, but it's a slog to search properly. Some forums like SpaceBattles host unique takes that blend the trope with rationalist fic, but they're scattered.

Sebastian Wolfe was supposed to be Elliot Gray’s rival. Not his husband. Not his protection. And definitely not the man his body refuses to ignore.
In a league where Omegas are forbidden, Elliot has survived for six years on iron discipline and triple-dose suppressants. He is hidden. One mistake away from losing everything.
Then Sebastian Wolfe shatters his stick. He shatters everything Elliot thought he could control.
The most feared Alpha captain in the league is everything Elliot cannot afford: dominant, obsessive, and dangerously perceptive. For two years, their rivalry has burned hot enough to destroy them both. The moment Sebastian starts looking closer, the secret begins to unravel.
Sebastian knows. Not everything. But enough.
When a threat rises that could expose Elliot to the world, Sebastian offers a solution: a legal marriage. A shield no authority can break. A deal between enemies that should mean nothing more.
Now they share a home. A bed. A life neither of them chose.
But when an Alpha decides something is his, he does not let go.
Elliot agreed to a contract. He did not agree to want his husband. He did not agree to need him. And he definitely did not agree to carry his child.
In a league built on dominance and silence, two rivals are about to learn the truth about fated mates. You don’t walk away. You don’t fight it. And you don’t survive it unchanged.

On my way home, I saved a witch from a rogue attack. She thanked me with a small vial of potion, which would let me hear other people’s thoughts.
That night, at the pack banquet, I heard my mate’s thoughts.
‘Serena just bought the sexiest lingerie. I need to find some excuse to ditch Aurora tonight.’
A second voice cut in, a woman’s.
‘She has no idea every time Lucian says he’s working late, he’s with me. We’ve slept together so many times now.’
‘Once I’m pregnant with Lucian’s child, he’ll have every reason to break the mate bond with her. And when he becomes Alpha, I’ll be the Luna.’
I almost laughed out loud. What Serena didn’t know was that Lucian was the Alpha’s illegitimate son. He’d never inherit anything.
I was already running through how to make them pay when another voice broke through. It came from the man standing next to Serena, the shabby boyfriend everyone in this pack looked down on.
‘How am I supposed to tell her I’m the heir to the Alpha King?’
My eyes went wide. I kept my face blank and walked straight up to him.
“Hey. Mind if I get your number?”
The royal house of Medora sets up an international contest. The winner gets to marry the crown prince and one day rule as his queen. But with the entire world watching, and several other women trying to sabotage you, falling in love isn't easy. Jane didn't take the contest seriously at first. She never even thought she would get in. She is introduced into a new world filled with ballgowns, secret romances and of course: Prince Sebastian. Can she fall in love with someone so different than her? Or will the dark side of this new golden world get to her first?
They took everything from her. Her freedom, her pack, and her name.
Sofia Fletcher has survived four years of slavery, a mate who rejected her for her own stepsister, and the kind of cruelty that teaches you never to hope. She has one rule left: trust no one.
Then Draco walks into an auction house and takes her.
He doesn't bid. He doesn't ask. He simply crosses a room full of bowed heads because when the most powerful being alive enters, everyone drops their eyes, and he takes her home.
He is an Alpha King like no other. Werewolf. Vampire. Demon king. Dragon slayer. Immortal. And he has been searching for Sofia for years, because she is the one thing in his long, terrible life he cannot walk away from.
His fated mate.
Sofia wants nothing to do with him. She is an Omega the lowest rank in pack society with a dangerous secret buried in her blood, and a past that left scars no one is allowed to touch. Draco is patient, possessive, and impossible to ignore, and the mate bond humming beneath her skin is beginning to feel less like a curse and more like an answer.
But Sofia's secret is the kind that gets witches killed. And Draco's world is full of enemies including the brother who wants to destroy him, and the father who will use anyone to take back what he lost.
Falling for the Alpha King was never the plan but fate has it's own plan.
In the Kingdom of Pierl, love is not determined by destiny, but luck. Every year, couples are chosen through a unpredictable game of chance called "The Mate lottery". Once paired, the lucky lovers head to the mysterious Island of Luck, where their virtues get put to the test and the winning pair is granted three wishes by the goddess of love, Isolde. This year, the Lottery will be the greatest there has been in centuries, as the prestigious Emperor Lordlin Varno, gorgeous as hell, suddenly made a decision to join and find his mate. Every royal woman participating is expected to win a reputable mate. All except Liora, a princess who is considered a bastard child by her family. Everyone believes that she can only win a peasant. But then the impossible happens. No one expected a bastard to be matched with the mighty Emperor Lordrin Varno, least of all him. Will the Mighty Emporer accept a mate who is a lowly human, branded a bastard child, when he has the power to reject his match and choose someone more fitting of his status? Like Heather, Liora's step-sister, beautiful, strong and utterly evil.Emporer Lordrin's biggest goal is to win the wishes granted by the goddess in the Island Of Luck. He isn’t looking for just a simple mate to love, but a cunning, strong and determined woman who can help him win the goddess's tests. Question is, which woman has what it takes to win the tests?
I've noticed two major ways this trope changes things, and honestly, they often pull in opposite directions. Sometimes, the 'Lord Potter' title is used to suddenly make Harry hyper-competent and politically savvy overnight, which honestly feels like a cheat code to skip his actual character growth. He's suddenly giving speeches to the Wizengamot and outmaneuvering Dumbledore before he's even had his first real shave. It can get pretty silly, turning him into a wish-fulfillment figure rather than the scrappy underdog.
But then, other fics use it to actually increase the pressure and isolation on him. Instead of freedom, the title becomes another gilded cage. He has ancient obligations, family curses, or political enemies from centuries past landing on his shoulders. In those stories, it's less about power and more about the burden of legacy. He might gain resources, but he loses the chance to be a normal kid even more completely. The tournament becomes this public stage where he can't just be a champion; he's a lord champion, with every mistake magnified. I tend to prefer this second take, even if it's more angsty, because it feels like it actually complicates his role instead of simplifying it.
A lot of these fics get lost in the gilding. They start with that incredible moment—his name comes out of the Goblet, and suddenly it's 'Lord Potter-Black, heir to twelve ancient and noble houses' or whatever. The immediate challenge I see is making that title matter beyond just a power fantasy. It can't just be a key that unlocks vaults and gets him instant respect from goblins and Dumbledore sweating.
You have to build the political landscape it exists in, which so many authors skip. If the Wizengamot is just a backdrop for him to sneer at, it falls flat. The real tension should come from the fact that he's a fourteen-year-old suddenly expected to navigate centuries of pureblood precedent and feuds, while still being a contestant in a deadly tournament. Does the title protect him, or paint a bigger target? Does it alienate Ron and Hermione because he's suddenly part of the system they distrust? That's the interesting stuff, not the fancy rings.
I’ve seen a lot of fics go down that 'Lord Potter' route during the Triwizard Tournament. Usually, the whole 'declaration' moment is a massive power play—Harry suddenly has political clout, wealth, and ancient family magic everyone forgot about. That changes his dynamic with literally everyone. Dumbledore goes from benign grandfather figure to a manipulative obstacle, because Harry’s new independence threatens his 'greater good' plans. The Ministry, especially Fudge, either tries to co-opt him or sees him as a rival. It’s less about romance at first and more about Harry learning who his real allies are, often with the Goblins helping him navigate the Wizengamot.
Romantic relationships in these stories tend to shift toward 'alliance marriages' or politically advantageous pairings. You’ll see a lot of Harry/Daphne Greengrass, because she’s a 'neutral' pureblood with a cold exterior that thaws as they scheme together. Hermione’s role is tricky—sometimes she’s his fierce, loyal advisor adapting to pureblood politics, other times she’s pushed aside for being a Muggle-born if the fic leans into pureblood tradition. Ron often gets the worst of it, depicted as jealous or unable to handle Harry’s new status, which fractures their friendship. The evolution feels like a crash course in wizarding realpolitik, with the tournament tasks just becoming a backdrop for the social maneuvering.
