I know of a couple different webnovels with the title 'The Liar'. One of them is a pretty famous psychological thriller that follows the life of a lying liar who can't stop lying. His life really spirals out of control when one of his many, many lies becomes connected to a real crime. And then there's 'A GAME OF LIES'. This one is a really fun story about a group of strangers who are forced to play a lethal reality TV game where every contestant is hiding secrets. It's a very deceptive story, and trust is one of the most dangerous things the contestants can mistake for reality.

I just finished reading ‘Who is the Liar’ in one sitting. It was so addictive. The plot keeps twisting and turning in surprising ways. The story follows a group of friends whose collective secrets get out of control and eventually are exposed in a shocking manner. The dialogue is crisp and the emotional stakes are extremely high.

The book primarily explores the gray area between truth and loyalty and keeps the reader questioning whether they like the main characters or not. 'Who is the Liar' is another cleverly told story. I loved this story of a tight group of friends who are found out to have betrayed each other at some point in time. But it’s not until the end of each chapter that you realize how things have escalated between the group.

I really enjoyed the way this novel explored the theme of perception and it was one of those rare books that kept me guessing until the very end. It was so good that I have recommended it to fans of classic whodunits by Agatha Christie, as well as more modern thrillers like The Silent Patient. The ending was so satisfying and had all of the threads tied up, but there was still enough ambiguity left to leave the reader thinking about the story long after finishing it.

'Who is the Liar' by M.L.Appovice is a fantastic and engaging story of friendship and deceit. The various perspectives in the novel have been linked together so skillfully by the author, that you have to question every character’s account of what is going on. Just the right amount of clues have been provided to keep you engaged and guessing until the end.

My favorite part of the book is the moral ambiguity of the characters and why they did what they did. The characters are all very real and flawed and relatable. It’s really hard to read this book because you want to know what’s going on and you can’t help but feel worse for the characters the more you read. If you like books where nothing is what it seems then this is a great choice for you. It’s one of my favorite psychological thrillers that I’ve read.

Recently I read ‘Who is the Liar’ by J.P. Smith. The complex storyline and in-depth psychological insight of the main characters immediately grabbed my attention. The story follows a group of friends and follows the unraveling of their lives after an unknown incident. Each character is hiding secrets, and you have no idea what really happened until the end.

I loved this book for lots of reasons, particularly the themes of distrust, deception, and relationships in this complex and suspenseful novel, full of twist and turns, which will keep you guessing until the end. The characters, all unreliable narrators, are perfect for fans of Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train, keeping you awake at night, wondering what is true and what they’ve been lying about. The character development is particularly good and their web of lies, cleverly interwoven throughout the book, is impossible to put down.

This is so anxiety inducing to read. Because we are reading the story through the eyes of the protagonist, we are by default his or her ally. Yet at the same time, we can sense that they are lying to us. But we have no idea who exactly they are lying to or exactly what it is that they are lying about.

As reader, you are complicit in the liar’s schemes at the same time as you are trying to work out who they are deceiving and why. It is a very anxious read because when the truth finally comes out it is not just a clever twist in the plot but also a massive personal betrayal. You have been duped by the author into trusting the liar and the subsequent anger you feel is also anger with yourself. This is a highly sophisticated emotional manipulation which most books fail to achieve and that is why the few that do are so memorable. They play on the natural reader conviction that a first-person narrator can be trusted.

I just finished reading web serial A Practical Guide to Evil, a practical guide to evil written by a woman operating under ‘story logic’ in a fantasy world. The main character, Catherine Foundling, uses her greatest asset (her ability to understand narrative) as her greatest weapon: to tell better lies than her enemies. Throughout the story, she makes up false motives for her actions, fakes prophecies and sets up intricate narrative traps for her enemies.

Her lying becomes reality because she's packaging it in a better story. The way that Foundling uses the typical liar story, in a meta-fictional way, is just really clever. I get that the story isn't about normal, psychological liars. As someone who reads a lot of fantasy, I find this takes the typical ‘liar’ story in really unique and genre-savvy directions. The fact that Foundling’s schemes can be analyzed in so much detail by the story’s fans, is almost as fun as reading the story itself.

I'm going to guess that by 'Liar', you mean the extremely popular thriller, The Woman in the Window by A. J. Finn. The main character, Anna Fox, is an agoraphobic, celebrated psychologist and habitual tippler, who spends most of her time these days watching old movies and spying on her neighbors through her windows. When she finally sees something she reports to the authorities to be horrific happening to one of the family in the house across from hers, no one seems to believe her.

One night Anna sees a man abusing a young girl next door in the house across the street. But since no one believes her because of her condition, her high amount of medication and her constant intoxication with alcohol, the rest of the book is trying to make the reader wonder what is true and what Anna just made up in her fractured memories.

But the twist at the end of this book was completely unexpected to me, which is hard to do these days. I thought it was a really good book, in a similar vein to Hitchcock’s Rear Window, and to other psychological suspense books where the central mystery is the narrator’s sanity (such as The Girl on the Train). It carves out its own extremely claustrophobic space and is a must-read for fans of this type of book.

This reminds me of the ‘liar’ archetype found in progression fantasy and litRPG web serials. This is a character who has some kind of ‘System’ or cheat that they must keep hidden from the rest of the world. Often the protagonist finds themselves lying constantly about their strength, origins or even their knowledge of certain things. In ‘Mother of Learning’ we follow Zorian through the time loop of him accumulating all sorts of skills and knowledge that he can’t possibly have gained in the time frame that the rest of the world is aware of. It takes a lot of elaborate lying and misdirection on his part to keep up the charade.

As opposed to the typical fast-paced fight scenes found in thrillers, in “MSOF” much of the tension is derived from the main character’s efforts to maintain his facade in social situations. Readers are extremely engaged in following the complex web of deceit, constantly waiting for the moment when the mask finally falls or is deliberately ripped off. And a clever use of the deceived enemy can be just as satisfying as a dramatic reveal of the main character’s secret. When will the truth about the main character finally come out? The community forums are filled with speculation about this.

The legal thriller is a subgenre built upon liars – every single witness, every single defendant, every single attorney in any legal thriller is a liar to some extent. This is the core of the book ‘Presumed Innocent’ by Scott Turow. The story is narrated by the main protagonist, a prosecutor named Rusty Sabich. At first glance it seems as if he wants to solve the murder of his colleague and former lover.

However, much of what Rusty recounts is coloured by his own memories, biases and secrets. Therefore, readers must be cautious as to whether they are being told the full story or just a self-justifying version of events. The majority of deceptive behavior is exposed outside of the courtroom and it is here that Turow uses the unreliable narrator to greatest effect in a genre where truth is supposed to be the ultimate goal and it is shown to be most elusive.

Can someone please make a 'liar novel' bingo card for me? I'll never not read the next big 'liar novel' that follows this exact same blueprint, but for now, I'm just here for the memes. Alcoholic female narrator? Check. Missing person/murder in a affluent and idyllic suburb? Check. Dual timelines (Then/Now)? Check. Therapist/psychologist protagonist? Check. And of course, the huge and surprising twist that changes everything in the last 50 pages of the book? Check. I know these novels are often bad for us, but I just can't help myself - they're so page-turning, comfortingly predictable and, yes, even slightly preposterous that they make for a wonderful comfort read. The formula is so clear now that I almost know what to expect and that's wonderful in itself, because sometimes you don't want something new and innovative, you just want to be entertained by a well-executed lie.
