Maybe that was the trade-off for being happy. But fear was irrational. It wasn't something you could choose. For me darkness was two-fold. The weight of that bitter history crashed down on me with the force of a freight train, leaving me breathless and reeling. The Darkness within me stirred, its presence growing more insistent as it begged to be unleashed, to claim dominion over my soul. But what sent a chill down my spine was its twisted longing to seek out Raphael and surrender to its darkest impulses in his presence.

The Darkness called out from its blockade beyond the hills where I sat south. I clenched my fists, digging my nails into my palms. The Darkness's voice echoed a constant, insidious whisper in my mind. It promised relief, an end to the torment. But I knew better. I had seen the horrors it could unleash, the twisted, broken souls it left in its wake. I had to ignore the Darkness for another twelve hours before the ritual was over as that was how long the first one was, and the Darkness had lost. I had to do this for my twins and to ruin some version of the Cult's plan to kill them and change the realm.

The night sky, filled with a terrifying aura, had truly never changed; in fact, it grew more terrifying with each passing day, striking fear into every living creature in the world.
