They stood barely chest-high and took stealthy steps forward with spears and bows at the ready. The firelight caught the zigzags of white paint from their bodies and light metal armor, making the creatures seem rather formidable.

Shadow spun, claws raking across a rogue’s throat, leaping over another as she commanded the warriors, her mind-link a constant hum of tactics and encouragement. But there were too many. The rogues swarmed, their madness driving them forward despite the traps, despite the death around them. Shadow lunged at the largest rogue, one almost the size of a bear, its fur matted with blood, its eyes empty of sanity. They crashed together, claws and teeth tearing, mud flying.

As the fight raged on, I managed to grab one of the Shadow Fang Pack warriors and pin him to the ground. I glared at him, my eyes blazing with anger. "Why?" I demanded. "Why is the Shadow Fang Pack attacking us?" The warrior sneered at me, but I could see the fear lurking in his eyes. "You have something we want," he spat. "Something that will give us the power to dominate all the other packs."

They might have been the worst pack to me and made a lot of my life difficult but as The Shadow wolf, it is my duty to serve and protect my fellow wolves. I stepped closer and put the call hold and looked at the guy’s furious faces. “NO!
