I stop by the reception, fetch Asher's room number and head to the elevator. The soft mechanical ding wafts through the closed space and the door opens. I step out, walking through the black and grey corridor, glancing at the number plate on each door until I see the one I'm looking for. I stop by the door, the knot in my throat comes back as I wrap my palm around the doorknob. Hesitation lingers on me for a moment but I turn the knob and push it open. My nightmare wrapped with heartbreak welcomes me. The bare back of a woman and blonde hair is what I see first, on top of my husband who lies in the bed, bare and glistening with sweat.

"Forget the subway! Get a taxi, now! Your house is on fire!" A thunderous roar exploded in my head. I bolted off the train and flagged down a cab in a panic. By the time I reached home, it was too late. A firefighter broke the news: my wife and daughter had been reduced to ashes. Crushed by overwhelming despair, I collapsed on the spot and blacked out. In an instant, everything I had built over two decades was gone. My wife and child hadn't even left me a memory to hold onto. After that, the nightmares came, every night without fail.

“See what I meant when I said that you were not good enough to take me on? Step one is, always monitor your prey’s movements. Or in your case, your predator. Then when he was close enough, she struck him with a glass shard and ran up the stairs again as the man cried out. Rushing to her room, she called Wendy, but her phone number was not going. It kept on saying that her phone was switched off. Then she tried calling Noah. He picked up immediately. “Hello my beautiful wife!” He exclaimed. Natalia rolled her eyes in frustration. “Help me, I am in trouble!” She whispered.

It's crazy in here. Red marks were slightly visible on her body, a reminder of last night’s affair. In her heavy state of sleep, she heard the door being pushed open. Although she did not want to open her eyes, she consciously roused herself. Her eyes were open. Outside the doorway, she caught sight of her husband and the astonished expressions of her mother-in-law and sister-in-law by his side. “Jude… ” She wiped her eyes. Her sight fell on the sheets and the surroundings of the room. Her mind turned blank for a moment. This was not her room. Where was this?
