People nearby glanced over gently. Not judging. Listening. The lanterns overhead glowed warmer. The song sounded silly now. Crooked. Childish. But halfway through— I heard it. Not clearly. Not perfectly. Just enough. My mother laughing while singing off-key in the kitchen. Warm hands fixing my collar. Kissing my forehead before school. The memory hit so suddenly tears blurred my vision. I stopped singing immediately. The square stayed quiet. Then Hope whispered softly: “You remembered.” I nodded shakily.
