His hand came up to grip my jaw. Then his forehead rested on mine. “Don't," he rasped. "Don't...don't do that to me. Why...why are you still hurting me like this?" Fresh tears rolled down my cheeks. But he didn't pull away. Instead, he slowly rolled his hips, pushing back into me with a deep stroke that made my legs shake.

I shook my head, too confused to speak. “Because the last time a lunar eclipse appeared here, something extraordinary happened. A bond formed between two wolves, marked by the moon herself. We call it "Midnight's Mark". It has not appeared in one hundred and twenty-three years. Most think it’s legend, but I saw it when I was young.” My mouth felt dry. “What kind of bond?” “The truest kind, a mate bond chosen by the Moon Goddess herself, marked on the skin at the eclipse’s peak. “That I’ll lose you. And when he turned you, Eva, the pact stretched. You are blood of his blood now, in the Moon’s eyes. She cannot deny you the smallest mercy, because denying you would break the pact.”
