My heart jumped, thudding violently against my ribs. I turned slowly, and my blood ran cold. A wolf stood there, massive and terrifying, with fresh blood dripping from its snapping jaws. It wasn't just any wolf, it was the Alpha. I’d forgotten the rumors that he haunted these woods during the full moon, hunting like a beast possessed. Panic seized me. I scrambled backward, my heels catching on roots until my back hit the rough bark of a massive tree.
