I feel sorry for them, and the adaption it will take them to get used to it here. When I find a small piece of laminated paper in the bedside table draw, I brighten a little. It is a full map of the entire building. It seems so much bigger, when I look at it from this map, with all its stories and what not. However, one half of the map is crossed with a large X, which leads me to assume that is where the Alpha's family stay. Somewhere forbidden to commoners such as myself. It's not that, though, that catches my eye. It's the small square sketched into the room, with the word library on it. Something tells me Alpha Malik might just have a library with better books in it...

Kael looked back at me. “I want to fix part of it.” “And how do you plan to do that?” He reached into his coat. Several warriors stiffened. But he only pulled out a folded map. He handed it to me. I opened it carefully. The map showed the entire Frostveil valley. But someone had added new markings. Hunter routes. Supply trails. Hidden observation points. Rowan leaned closer. “Where did you get this?” Kael answered quietly. “I drew it.” Darian frowned.

It used to be such a warm place, now it was spoiled by the attack and the abduction. Finally, my hands made their way to the pile of maps that I had seen Alastor, Damian, and Orion pouring over for days and days. Some of the maps were new, but many of the maps were extremely old, to my surprise. The older maps were drawn on pieces of parchment that were turning brown with age and fraying at the edges. I gently stacked the maps up, just straightening them into a neat pile to make them look better.

He unfolds several sheets of paper across the rocky ground. Alaric and I exchange looks. Without realizing it, we both step closer to see the contents of the paper. It is a map. A map of Neutral Territory bordering the Nightwhisper region. One area is circled in red; I’m not sure what it means. I have never seen that place on any kingdom map before. “If we want to destroy Alpha Garson, we need an army.” Dorian points toward the red circle before glancing at us. “Your uncle may have elite forces under his control. But he does not realize… some of his enemies survived.”

I snapped my fingers as the light bulb went off in my head. “Al?” “Yes, Nia.” The mansion’s AI answered. “Do you report to Lykoan everything that I ask you?” “It depends on the nature of your request.” “Can you upload a soft copy of the Trenchlands map to my phone?” I tested him. My body tensed as I raised an eyebrow. “Negative.” Bummer. I sighed in resignation and mumbled, “Well, you’re no help, Al.” “Perhaps a message from Lykoan will cheer you up,” he replied.

It was a terrifyingly detailed, glowing blueprint of the labyrinthine tunnels stretching directly beneath our feet. "It’s a dynamic ley-line grid of the Abyss," Kaelen explained, her voice remarkably tight as she pointed a dagger at the glowing projection. But here it is, all laid out in black ink on yellowed paper, real as the stone under her feet, detailed enough to make her feel like she was never writing a story at all — just taking dictation from a world that already existed. She pulls one of the rolled maps from the shelf and unrolls it on the table. It shows the entire continent, with names she never invented — the Scarred Lands to the north, the Salt Plains to the east, the Glass Mountains to the west. Roads wind through territories she left blank, rivers carve paths she never imagined, cities bear names that feel both familiar and alien. She smiles and hugs me, “Alpha Abigail, I’ve never been prouder of my own niece as I am right now, you have such a pure heart.” I catch up with Beta Josh and Gamma Gabe and head to the borders, looking for more areas to build more housing. By the time I got back to the pack house, dinner was being placed out. I fall into my seat with a huge sigh and pick up my fork and dig into the meat on my plate.
