The mist suddenly coiled around a tree ahead, swirling up the trunk and spilling down again in ribbons of green light. And from that light—something stepped out. Its form was wrong. Half shadow, half smoke. A body made of mist and ash, glowing faintly where veins of green light pulsed through it. It didn’t walk—it glided. Corin pushed me behind him, sword raised. “ Shadow spawn,” he hissed. The creature hissed back, its voice echoing like dozens of whispers overlapping. “ You shouldn’t have come here…”

“Alpha command me, if you think I’m lying, Heath!” He threw me on the ground and paced. “I lost partners today because of one fucking shadow maw.” I rubbed my neck and looked up at Heath with tears stinging my eyes. “Heath, what is a shadow maw?” He looked at me, his body towering over me. “It’s a wolf that is much larger than ours. It doesn’t look like ours either. I went through our database looking for information until I found out what they were. Thalia is a shadow maw.”

The walls shimmered like moonstone, casting reflections that danced even though no flame burned. Everything around me pulsed with power—like the air had secrets etched into it, secrets too old and too sacred for human tongues to name. And then I saw her. The White Lady. Again. She stood at the far end of the hall, back turned, robes like smoke trailing around her, whispering against the marble. Her silver hair flowed in waves down her back, and her hands, clasped behind her, radiated a light that didn't cast a shadow.

The witches closed in, their laughter echoing like a chorus of nightmares. Something inside Aqua snapped. A surge of dark energy, unfamiliar and terrifying, welled up within her. She felt her pendant grow hot against her skin, the clear crystal turning black as smoke. The air around her crackled with raw power as she turned back towards the attackers, her fear morphing into a blinding rage.

I ask him, lost in my train of thoughts. “You are not evil Avalon.
