I glanced over to my father, the Alpha of the Blazing Wolves, who was walking beside me further into the middle of the woods where wolves went for only one purpose – to train with fire. “Yes, you can, son. First in was a man about Banes age, blond, skinny and with a smile that would have been right at home on a jackal. He was followed by an older man in his fifties, his hair had started to grey and he had a scar running along his left cheek, the smile was the same as that of the first man. “Is this what I think it is?” I don't even waste my time looking at him because the old man is all bark and no bite. “No, no, no,” Alec blurts in response. “I swear by the moon goddess I don’t—” Alpha Magnus doesn’t even let Alec finish what he wants to say before he rudely interrupts. “Did you sell off your sister to Alpha Thorne, too?” he asks Alec, and his jaw locks. My blood boils when I hear Alpha Magnus say that, but I blame Alec.

I let my own stubborn determination flow straight through the bond, hitting his mind like a cold wave to quiet his beast. "I am the one who knows how to handle the silver light. If those generators have magical backup systems, your claws will not be able to short-circuit them. You need my blood to break the lines." Kael clenched his fists so hard his knuckles turned white. He looked at Magnus, then at Silas, hoping one of the old kings would back him up. But both Alphas stayed completely quiet. They had seen the silver fire at the harbor. They knew the truth.

They slowly stepped aside, pulling the heavy oak doors open. Victoria marched into the cavernous office. The room was dark, lit only by a single green banker’s lamp on the massive mahogany desk. Alpha Magnus stood near the back of the room, pouring a glass of amber bourbon from a crystal decanter. He wore a dark silk shirt, the sleeves rolled up to reveal thick, scarred forearms. He did not look pleased. "You are interrupting my evening, Victoria," Magnus said, his voice a low, dangerous rumble. He took a slow sip of the bourbon, turning to face her. "I hope, for the sake of your family's standing, this is important."

Two figures emerge from the thick shadows of the oak trees—Michael Hale and the sinister rogue elder, Bane. "Kate is dead?" Michael exclaims, his scent spiking with pure, pathetic terror as he stares at the blood pooling in the dirt. "What kind of beast could have done this in a territory full of nothing but common pack omegas?" Bane silently crouches down, his long, dark claws tracing the jagged fracture along Kate's neck. He stands up, his face hardening as his yellow eyes flare. "She encountered a high-ranking Alpha. Someone with an ancient True Alpha Lineage."

“You’re something else entirely.” Something in his tone sent unease crawling up her spine. “Who are you?” she asked. He didn’t answer right away. Instead, he crouched near the fire, tossing in another piece of wood. Only when the flames flared higher did he finally speak. “Lucian.” The name dropped like a stone between them. Selene went still. She knew that name. Every wolf did. Lucian Valor. The exiled Alpha. The rogue who had killed his own mate.

“I don’t care about strategy! Marissa is out there, and I’m not going to sit here while she’s in danger. I’ll go now!” With that declaration, he turned, ready to bolt into the night. But James was miraculously quicker, and stepped in front of Dario, arms crossed, blocking his path. “You can’t do this, Alpha. You’re not thinking straight. If you go out there alone, you’ll walk right into a trap.” He tried to convince him. He too was more than determined to make him not kill himself. James and everyone else knew just what the billionaire was capable of and no matter how strong Dario was, he was not stronger than silver and the billionaire had a surplus supply of it.

Behind him, he closed his eyes angrily to turn around, but he remained in place when he found that the place of the wound had begun to gather with the power of darkness, before Matthew stood in front of him and said "Believe me, you don't know anything about me anymore, Alpha King." He said as he formed a huge ball of darkness, then faced it directly at him. Lucian used all his energy and the strength of his wolf in order to form a shield to protect him from that force, but to no avail.
