As he went to leave, Alice grabbed his hand.
“You’re happy, right?” she asked, looking up with wide eyes.
“Yeah,” Jamie said, smiling faintly. “Never been better.”

Alice slumped into the chair at her computer, finally alone and able to remove the ugly beanie she was using to cover the rash on her forehead. The word ‘BITCH’ was more stubborn to remove than she’d anticipated and was still faintly visible beneath the red marks she had made when desperately trying to scrub it off.
