“As a schedule, yes,” Kai nodded. “My head still has to work on it.”
“That’s what this bus is for,” Aria said, tapping her temple. “Let’s start with the simplest. Count to four. Inhale for four, hold for four, exhale for four, pause for four. Ten rounds. Works even over coffee. Science.”
Kai leaned back and obeyed. His shoulders gradually released. He breathed through his nose, the bandage around his ribs tightening only lightly. The rhythm filled the seat’s comfortable hollow, the smoky scent of coffee, the monotonous rumble of asphalt.
