___________________________________________________________________________ 22 / 11 / 2021 I watch as the various colour vehicles zoom pass by me – there was some thing soothing about the way there always seemed to have people who were busier than my family , it gave me a please of mind that we were normal. Does it make sense? I truly do not know. I always had a habit of looking out the window on a long trip – watching the sky , watching the people , some times watching the animals graze on the fields. It was all so thrilling!

84 ANNALISE I stood by the window, gazing out at the horizon. The sun dipped below the trees, casting a warm glow over the landscape. It felt like a moment frozen in time. Adrian stood beside me, close enough that I could feel the warmth radiating from him. I didn’t want to look away, not now. “Isn’t it beautiful?” he asked, his voice soft, breaking the comfortable silence between us. I nodded, still lost in thought. “It reminds me of those days in the village when the sun would set, and everything felt perfect.”

I woke to silence and cold sheets beside me. Dominic was gone. The indent from his body had already cooled, which meant he'd been up for a while. I lay there for a moment, listening to the city hum outside the windows—so far below we might as well have been in another world. The clock on the nightstand read 7:47 AM. I had no idea what time he'd left. I pulled myself out of bed and padded barefoot across the room. The penthouse felt different in daylight—less like a trap, more like a museum. Everything in its place. Nothing out of place. Nothing real.

DARIUS She didn't know I watched from the greenhouse light. I hadn't planned to start doing it. The first morning she went out there I was at the study window with my coffee and I saw it come on through the glass panels in the early dark and I stood there longer than I had any reason to. Then I went back to my desk. Didn't mention it to anyone. Didn't particularly examine it myself. That was eleven days ago. Now I looked for it every morning the way you look for something that has quietly stopped being optional. Whether it was on. Whether it stayed on. Whether she came back inside before or after Hilda put breakfast out.

“I do.” I stared out the window, watching the endless stretch of land blur past. For the first time in days, I didn’t feel entirely alone.

I knew it was watching. It had been watching me every damn day I came by to unpack. Staring at my ass jiggling on the treadmill, my legs flexing, tits bouncing. It had watched me in the shower where my hands slid under my breasts, soapy fingers slipping everywhere. It had watched me slip into this little nightie and it had patiently waited for me. It’s 1 a.m. The window cracked open, it was cold as hell outside, but I still yearned for the chilly breeze which slipped in off the water, making my skin prickle.

I feel, for a moment, like I’m watching myself from a distance, like I’m a shadow at the edge of someone else’s story. I set down my glass, turn off the TV, and stand at the window, watching the rain finally begin to fall.

I take time to glance out the window and watch the birds singing their melodic lines in a choir, and as though the wind was singing along with them as it blows gently. The leaves were swaying with the gentle breeze of the wind, and the sun was slowly coming into the picture. Just by looking at the window, you knew deep inside your heart that the picturesque could never be replaced in someone else's memory until their last breath.
