But Alpha’s wolf is non-verbal.” Rubbing his arm, I put on a sweet smile. “Helios?” The wolf looked at me again, giving me a toothy grin. “Good boy. Can you move your foot to the pedal next to the one you’re on and slowly press down on it.”

So I lean over to the wolf’s ear. “The ground will be more unstable further up. It’s not even, and it's covered in moss.” I speak, squinting my eyes as the wind grows just a bit colder. The wolf beneath me lets out a huff, his eyes glowing a blue like the moon’s light. He lets out a howl, and then a shorter one right after. It’s amazing how wolves can communicate through the bond their Alpha creates. The stronger the leader, the stronger the connection.

Her fur strikes a shade of grey that catches the soft light filtering through the trees, her form sleek and strong. Unable to help myself, I step closer and run a hand gently along her neck. She immediately growls low in her throat, her sharp teeth flashing in warning. "Sorry," I mutter quickly, raising my hands and stepping back. She huffs, looking away, and without wasting any more time, I shift too, feeling my human thoughts blend seamlessly with Alacrick, my wolf. Our wolves face each other for a brief moment, studying, connecting. I'm Kira. I don't think we've met” she introduces herself, her voice clear and confident.

All my senses homed in on that carcass. When they sensed my presence, their heads lowered. They let out low, warning growls. The alpha, a huge gray wolf, prowled towards me, hackles raised, lips furled back in a vicious snarl. With one bound I jumped over the wolf and landed right in the middle of their feast. As expected, a couple of wolves jump out of hiding and begin circling us, their intent clear as they growl. I could easily take them all if I was on my own but now I had a mate standing behind me trembling in fear. I contemplated turning to my wolf and finishing these rogues off but I can't risk her safety so I quickly connect to the mind link trying to reach my beta and pack while making sure she was still safe behind me.

⸻ Chapter One – The Girl Without a wolf The first howl came just after dawn. It echoed through the valley, deep and commanding, carrying over the towering pines that surrounded Blackridge Pack territory. Every wolf within miles paused, heads lifting instinctively toward the Alpha House perched on the cliff above. He was awake. Alpha Kael Ashwood. Twenty-eight years old. Six-foot-Six. The strongest Alpha Blackridge had seen in generations. Feared by enemies. Respected by allies. Worshipped by his pack.

Whenever there's a fight between different packs that involve their Alphas, such a howl is made when one of them succeeds and wins the fight. I'm sure the wolves outside would be confused, Red Moon Pack members would definitely know within them that the howl didn't come from their Alpha. As for the Avengers? They'd also know the howl isn't from their Alpha. But then the rule stands, such howl means one of them won. I strode behind the stairs and snapped back into my human form.
