That was cold, he could've at least let me thank him for helping me that time. "What a dick." Daichi said, fixing up his tie. You just keep pretending you’re not.” Silence stretched between us, heavy with things I didn’t want named. “What happens,” I asked finally, “if the Alpha rejects the bond?” Corvin didn’t answer right away. He stared into his mug, jaw tightening. “Then the fire looks elsewhere,” he said. “And gods help anyone standing in its path.” My wolf snarled uneasily. I stood, heart pounding. “You’re saying she’s dangerous.”

I leaned towards him. “Listen, you don’t have to worry. Maybe he’s just a regular beta, so you don’t have to worry about him getting to you. He’ll find a place within the low ranks.” Xavier shook his head. “You’re the Alpha, sir.” I knew that meant he didn’t agree with me, but he didn’t want to resist me. I took his hand and slapped it against mine. “I understand your worry. I understand how you, Ragnar and Elora would kill for me, but this time, I’ve got this.” I dropped his hand.
