I most definitely didn't hate him but did I- Suddenly, I was grabbed by my hips and my legs went around Narc's waist snapping me out of my thought. I stared at his eyes. Red fucking eyes. The Martinez gene. It was unbelievable that some people could even possess the eye colour red but him and his family was living proof that It's possible. Red was most infamously known to be the colour of anger and in his reputation, he had the worst anger temper I have ever seen before. Never have I ever thought of it as love because it could potentially be like that. Guess it will always be some sort of fucking mystery.

He left without arguing this time. I watched the screen again. The Mark on her shoulder pulsed once beneath the fabric faint red glow leaking through cotton. My skin remembered that same heat. I touched the burn on my palm. Still there. Still wrong. The last time I felt power I couldn’t control, I was ten. And my father was still alive. He used to sit in his study, whispering to himself after the whiskey took hold. “We bargain with the dark,” he’d say, glass shaking in his hand.

Not only did we make it to the end of the case, but we kept our red alive and it's stronger than ever. He pulls me into a hug and I rest my head on his chest, closing my eyes and listening to his heart beat. I know his world isn’t normal, but neither is mine. Hell, the Adair’s don’t back down from anything, and no matter what happens, I’ll stand with him shoulder to shoulder ready to take on the battles. There’s no one I’d rather fight beside and there’s no one I’d rather love for the rest of my life.

His teeth grind the more he stares at it. Red. Fucking. Roses. Of all the damn colors to send somebody, Tenz Jer'sey had to choose the one that makes his stomach churn and eyes sting. His fist tightens further. Red. The color that's supposed to be used by lovers.

It just exploded out, wild and pissed off. Except, this wasn’t your run-of-the-mill shift. Nah. Her fur wasn’t the usual brown, gray, or black. Nope. She came out drenched in red—like, blood-red. The kind of red that makes you stare and forget how to breathe, burning crazy-bright under the moon. Yeah. The red wolf. The one from the stupid stories.

It felt refreshing, brand new. "No more apologies." I smiled back. “No more apologies.”

I also pulled his T-shirt off his body. “I like this red one. You should wear red whenever we have plans to fuck wild.” He said, his voice thick and eyes clouded with lust. “I’ll need your credit card then because I have in different colours and they’d be waste if I am going to wear red everyday because we fuck every night.” I replied boldly.

The sound of the alarm wakes me up with a start. I walk straight to the bathroom and start my morning routine. Twenty minutes later, I stand in my closet thinking of what to wear. I take out a white pant suit after finding a red blouse but I shake my head in disagreement. Red is my signature color but today I want to try something else.

“Everyone talks about what things look like, but no one can ever describe color right. They try, but it always sounds like poetry that doesn’t land. I miss knowing what blue feels like… what red looks like when it burns.” I hesitated. “Red looks… alive.” “Alive?” “Yes. It’s the color of anger and love… of danger and warmth. It’s… both everything and too much at once.” He smiled softly. “Sounds a lot like you.” My breath caught. “That’s… not funny.” “It wasn’t meant to be.” I looked away quickly, staring out at the blur of lights rushing by the window. “You shouldn’t say things like that.” “Why not?” “Because they sound real.”
