Others may never return. The goal isn't necessarily to force the memories back but to heal and find peace, whether or not those memories resurface." I nodded slowly, trying to absorb her words. It’s like a glitch or error that would keep her from accessing or checking out a specific memory. People with dissociative amnesia do not realize they have gaps in their memory, and that is exactly what I’m hoping for. This can last until memory loss affects part of their sense of identity or if someone brings up or asks something a person knows they should remember but can’t.
