This empire. The underworld. I ran my thumb over the Abraha insignia. A golden emblazoned crow in mid-flight and twisted the ring so it lay against my palm. I hated the sight of it. The weight. The feel of it was even worse. Suddenly, a thought crossed my head at the resemblance of the black seal and my ring. A symbol that I failed to recognize but hazily suspected. The eerie eyes of an owl. Of course, she chose that over anything else. Sabrina, you cunning piece of shit.

Taking it into my own adrenaline fuelled, trembling hands, I see what it is—a bronze amulet depicting the phases of the moon. “It will shield you from prying eyes and those who mean you harm. You will be able to travel unseen and leave no trace of yourself where you tread.” She takes the amulet from my hand, stands on the tips of her toes, and places it around my neck. Her fingers bush against my skin and a trickle of raw energy flows into me. I remember why I had been distancing myself from my only real friend.

His eyes, however, were filled with a fury that mirrored the fear that had gripped my gut. “Alden,” Lena began, “I have gone through the trouble of preparing all of this for you.” Her voice dripped with false sweetness. “However, we both know it doesn't have to end this way. Hand over your kingdom, and the amulet, and all of this…unpleasantness will go away.” Alden's fury intensified. The amulet was a silver pendant etched with the image of a griffin. It was a trinket passed down generations of Alden's family signifying their rule over the lands. It was a symbol of his heritage and birthright.

“Well, it’s been acting a bit strange lately. It’s been vibrating, and it’s getting stronger. Could you tell me how it works exactly? I never got to ask you before.” She paused, as if considering how best to explain. “The amulet has protective qualities for its wearer, but it also vibrates in the presence of magic. Consider it as… an alarm system for magic.” “And what kind of magic are we talking about?” I asked. “All kinds, really. But mostly the kind you’d rather not have near you or your loved ones. Black magic,” she said cautiously. “That’s...concerning,” I admitted, my voice tinged with uncertainty. “So, the vibrations could mean there’s magic around me?”

Maybe this would cheer him up. “Okay,” I said. “That’s a good idea.” Finally, I settled on a small amulet depicting a wolf’s tooth cast in bronze. I held it up, admiring the small sapphire set into the base of it as it caught the light. This one was on a leather strap, something that I knew would suit Eric well. Understated, but a symbol of prestige and power. And if it helped him during his warrior training, then… well, I’d spend whatever was necessary, even if we fought sometimes.

Taking the offered beverage gratefully, I take a long, deep sip and begin explaining. The first pile has a few old books, an athame, green velvet robes, and a leather-bound journal. There are also a few crystals and other focus items. The second pile has the mirror, a variety of silks, some unusual dresses, and a jewelry box full of very interesting, very powerful gems set into rings and amulets. There is one ring in particular that caught my eye, a fire opal set in gold. It still glows with an inner fire, signifying that it is still receiving energy from somewhere. But where? And from whom?

After a couple of minutes, swearing with ancient curses, Gudeauar came out, covered in dust. “Here are beautiful specimens, a protective necklace with large stones of the Tears of Eleanor, I don’t know why it wasn’t destroyed, but if we raise the protective fabric, we will move no faster than people. This unsightly black chain imbues the wearer with the power of a werewolf, we once took it away from the werewolves, with it they gained even greater power. But with this amulet, more carefully, a special stone in it has been accumulating the energy of the sun for hundreds of years, and if you turn the protective hieroglyphs on the amulet to the side, a powerful light beam will burst out of it.

"Take this. It's an amulet that offers protection against various dangers. Keep it close and make sure you have your mind on this all the time. I know it might sound stupid or something like that but its not. Make sure you hols onto it and holding close to you. If you come across any danger and and don't have this, I swear to you, you will be in more danger considering how this will help you over come trouble if any comes." Lucien took a look at the amulet for a while, remembering remember the single warning Liam had just given him. He took the amulet and placed it around his neck, feeling the cool metal against his skin. He looked down at it and flashed a smile.

Cost me a pretty penny, but highly worth it. My hair is half up, half down, with loose curls. It's soft and elegant, showing off my face while keeping it out of my face. Also, keep on the emerald necklace Declan got me because it goes perfectly, along with the ring I had custom-made. It's just a gold ring with an emerald, similar to the necklace, but it doubles as a scent blocker. No one will be none the wiser because it's stunning. There's a knock on my door, so I tell whoever it is to come in while I check myself in the full-length mirror to ensure everything is perfect.

I drape my hands around the back of his neck and feel his hands slide down my back to caress my butt. “Mmmm. I am enjoying your distraction, but what about the third ring?” Lucifer asks as his hands slide from my butt to wrap my legs around his waist, so that I’m sitting directly on the large bulge in his pants...and he says I’m distracting. I should have known he would ask. “It’s in my jewelry box.” “You know you can’t keep it.” I roll my eyes at my overprotective mate. “It’s in an enchanted bag. No one can sense the power in the ring. You didn’t and you’ve been in my room for how long?”
