I gathered the things we used and cleaned it up before stepping outside. That was when I noticed Alpha Harrison standing alone near the doorway. He looked calm but something about him felt off. He looks tired. I hesitated for a second then walked over. "Harrison?" I softly called. "Are you alright?" For a moment, he looked at me in surprise. But he nodded his head. "Yes. I'm fine." But my eyes moved on their own until they landed on his arm. There were bloodied scratches on his forearm. They weren't deep but they were still fresh.

The lights to the pack hospital were on, even though it was the middle of the night. The Alpha and I got out and headed into the building and walked up to the reception area. “General Nerine has broken her arm; I would like the doctor to make sure it is set properly before it heals." The receptionist nodded and picked up the phone. A few minutes later, a doctor walked out into the waiting area. “I am doctor Aura, please come with me.” Dr Aura was small for a werewolf; she was petite with greying brown hair and brown eyes. I nodded and followed her as she led me down a hallway and into an examination room.

Vampires emerged from the darkness, moving fast, surrounding the car. The warriors barely had time to react. As they fought to defend themselves, one of the vampires wrenched open the back door. In one brutal motion, it grabbed Harrison and dragged him out of the seat. He didn’t even have time to scream. The vampire vanished into the forest with him, swallowed by the trees and the darkness beyond the road.

I needed to know. It was me who broke the silence. “Do you drink the blood of humans?” “No… yes… I mean, no,” he stammered. “Well, that’s confusing,” I said softly as I searched his anguished face. He took a deep breath. “Okay, here goes. Sasha’s mother was a day-walker. She preferred the blood of humans. While I was with her, I tried to live as she lived and so, yes, I drank the blood of humans. It was not the life for me. Because I was born of a human, and hold within me human genes, I can sustain myself quite well on a vegetarian diet, so I no longer drink blood.”

He pointed to the door and signaled him to open it, the staircase was very dark but below it was bright, when he reached the last step his gaze perceived how abominable that place was, a man hanging by his hands distilling blood and below him a large puddle of that crimson liquid. An unconscious man and a beautiful woman trembling, but watching him sobbing and frightened, approached her asking. "Are you all right ma'am, I'm Commander Harrison."
