He looked toward the silver doorway.
“The First World.”
The doorway pulsed.
Emily could see it more clearly now. The world beyond was enormous, ancient, and strangely beautiful. Mountains stretched across a black horizon, but their peaks glowed silver. Rivers of light flowed through valleys. Massive trees rose into the darkness, their branches holding clusters of glowing spheres that looked like unborn stars.
“It was perfect,” Kael said.
Emily looked at him.
“You've used that word be
