Zander whimpered from the pain while I clutched my chest tightly. "Follow the fragrance," he urged on. Turning towards the direction of the scent, the pain disappeared. A frown marred my face. "Come on," Zander pushed me, once again, he was excited. Deciding to know what was going on, I began to trace the fragrance. The more I got closer to where it was coming from, the more Zander's excitement bubbled. "What is so special about this scent?" I growled. "It makes us feel at peace. See, it even healed us of the ache." He sighed happily. "It has become my favorite scent."

Zane. His neighbor from across the hall. Thirty-one years old, tall and built like someone who lifted heavy weights every day. Zane had dark tattoos covering both arms and part of his chest. He worked night shifts and always looked tired and pissed off. Right now he wore only gray sweatpants that hung low on his hips. His broad chest was bare and his jaw was tight with anger. "You have got to be fucking kidding me," Zane said. His deep voice cut through the leftover noise. "It is two in the morning. Some of us actually sleep."

The next few months went by in a blur. Work was great, life with Logan was great, family was great. The one-year anniversary of what happened to me had arrived. Logan did a fantastic job of making a bad time into something good. I thought I would have nightmares but Logan managed to distract me at every turn. We booked the day off work and he took me to a zoo. We had a picnic lunch in the zoo gardens and he took me to a restaurant for tea. We finished the night with a movie and popcorn, cuddled up on the sofa. That night Logan never let go of me in bed. If I wriggled out of his hold, he would maneuver so that his arms were still around me in one way or another.

Most likely, he would torture him or his servant until he was given the stone. Carson picked up the phone and called Ted. He put in an order and told Ted to get it to him by tomorrow night, and he would give him a little extra. Ted loved to blow stuff up, and he was an arsonist, which would be satisfactory enough for him, but the extra money wouldn’t hurt either.
