Chapter 1 The room was gloomy and dimly lit. The only beam of light in the darkness came from the screen of the Television. Nestled in my usual chair, my eyes rested on the flickering screen of the big box. On the screen of the box was a girl, staring at three traditional african dolls, all of them were dressed in white gowns. One was burned to a crisp, the second was only scorched on one side and the third was untouched by the flames. The girl reached out her hand and picked up the doll that had not been burned. "This is our newest, Bambi." It took me a second to recognize my own name. My new name. She gave me an expressionless stare. Her blue eyes showed nothing except for.. discontentment? Still I pulled forth my trainings from school on etiquette and tried out my warmest smile. "Hello! I am so glad to meet you." I said. Vixen rolled her eyes at me as she stood up, "Oh, your one of those girls." She said distastefully, Fox reprimanded her quickly, her tone loud and serious.

He narrows his eyes at me. "Luciana I'm serious," he says. I shrug. “So am I." *** It’s a few days before I see Diana again but she seems to have forgotten everything that happened. Her cheery smile is back and her eyes are filled with excitement . . . and mischief. "Ana!" She screams, jumping on my bed. My eyes fly wide and I let out a yelp as I fall back onto the blankets. I glare a little. “Dude what the hell was that for? I was reading!” I growl, roughly setting my book down on the nightstand.

Right now, school is only child’s play for me, but once I enter veterinary school, my workload will likely triple. “Mama, you okay?” Elijah asked in concern. I finally registered him snapping in my face, trying to get my attention. I only nodded, still open-mouthed in shock. “Come on, Mama. It’s time for your nap. I think I broke you,” he laughed. I instantly screwed my eyes shut and willed myself to pass out...anything that would help me avoid the conversation.

Isaac was pretty sure that none of the wedding invitations mentioned pets being able to come, but Anni was cat-obsessed and never left that animal's side.
