Caturix rumbles. I had no idea that they could switch like that without shifting. I have to say that Caturix is one imposing Lycan. He must be at least 8’ tall and he is all muscle. His fur is as black as night. I wanted to pet him, but during an attack is not the time for shit like that. I run my hand through his hair, and I swear he starts to purr like a damn cat. I nearly ask him if he is purring, but I do not think he would appreciate being compared to a cat. “Aww you are purring.” I coo.

Rayne bit the inside of her lip and considered her answer as her cat purred louder at the sound of his voice. Her animal was clearly intrigued by the vampire which was surprising as her cat didn't usually pay much attention to men around her. But something about the vampire had its attention. Maybe it was his question? He was obviously knowledgeable about wildcats. He knew the black panther was not in fact a panther but a member of either the leopard or jaguar family. That would stroke her cat's ego, that this male was asking an intelligent question about its origins. She considered her options and then went for the truth as she knew it.

If one were to look closely, one could even see that the cat had a very humanlike expression of meditation on its face. It could be guessed that these people were all cultivators and very strong ones at that, even the little boy not even a decade old, with deep attainments sufficient to resist with just their bodies the whipping winds that would otherwise easily rip apart a mortal. The fact that they were using a pure-blood demon crane as a mount proved that they had extraordinary backgrounds. Suddenly, the cat opened its mouth. "Do you desire to go visit your home?" The ancient voice that asked those three questions was, surprisingly, not from the middle-aged man… but the ugly cat!

We stay like that for a good minute before he turns around to snarl at the trees. Between two oak trees, a pack of werecats yowls at us. Their bodies are entirely human except for the hair covering their skin and their faces of different cat species—some look like lions, while others resemble tigers or panthers. Their chests are bare, muscular, and hairy. But what they all have in common is the ready-to-kill expression. I brace myself, ready to summon flames. But unfortunately, they outnumber us. Victory seems hopeless, which is why I find it endearing that Blake appears unwilling to leave my side—he is standing so close I could touch him.

I ditch the shirt and socks and slide naked under the covers, sprawling back like a king who’s been temporarily banished from his throne. “Mew.” A puffed-up black furball is glaring at me from the pillow, green eyes full of judgment and betrayal. “Sorry, pal,” I mutter, scooping Doom up and tucking him against my chest. I flip on the TV. Animal Planet. And as if sitting here rock-hard, waiting for a woman to shave her legs, clearly isn’t cruel enough on its own, they show the mating ritual of … cats. Doom sits upright, suddenly very invested, following every word the narrator is saying.

One for men and one for women. The woman's curtains moved first as a large sleek panther stepped out. Its fur was a dark coffee brown color that was a few shades darker than Calix. The bright amber eyes dancing as Calix launched himself at the lean creature, hugging one of its legs. She was as tall as she was in human form, making her just a few inches bigger than me if you didn’t count her ears.

The way it meows seems to be saying ‘My, my’. I looked behind. A pair of orange coloured cat eyes reflected the moonlight— which it surprised me. What surprised me is— the cat is normal sized, and it is alone. Compared to the big Cithaeron lions and the enormous Fenrir wolves, this cat`s size is normal to any household pet. It is a black cat. It speaks. Then, this must be the misfortune cat.
