“Bring the Black Coast shipment codes, the account access, and every fucking file you stole.” A sob caught painfully in my throat. What the hell were they talking about? “I swear I don’t know anything,” I whispered desperately. “I don’t even know who Ravens is.” One of the men barked out a laugh. “Damn. She really clueless.” “Not our fucking problem,” another muttered. The gun pressed harder into my skin and my breathing immediately turned shaky again. “You hear that, Ravens?” the man said into the phone. “Fourteen hours before we paint the floor with her brains.”

Something deeper. Something older. Then the thing smiled. And Thomas felt cold. Very cold. Then: "What is that?" Arkan's expression darkened. Immediately. Then: "A mistake." Silence. Then: "One of mine." The answer somehow made everything worse. Then Thomas looked at him. Then: "What does that mean?" Arkan watched the shadow carefully. Then: "When I created the Crowns..." Pause. Then: "I created guardians." The battlefield trembled. Then: "Pieces of myself."

It was a night ripe with both sorrow and danger. Outside, in the veil of darkness, lurked creatures of myth and legend. Werewolves, guardians of the forest, prowled silently, their keen senses attuned to the slightest movement. Among them, two pairs of amber eyes fixated on the cabin, the Beta and the Head Warrior of the Blue Orchid pack tasked with observing and bringing the troubled man within to their pack, who was entirely unaware of the species’ existence.

No doubt the foxes had given her a hassle to capture them. I was pleased she had killed them before bringing them to me. I would have hated to kill them myself and get dirty hours before my coronation day. I had worked a quick spell to turn them into a cloak and had gutted Darla's belly for bringing them five seconds late. Her guts were in a jar I saved for my spells later on. I summoned one of my crows, this one is named Gore. He hated it but I rather loved the name which suited him well because of his fascination with eating corpses. Preferably dead wolves. He also loved bringing souvenirs for my spells. Wolves blood is very useful for many spells.

A crow made of shimmering light burst forth, its wings flaring wide as it took to the sky. “Find Harold,” Dale commanded. “Tell him everything!” The crow let out a piercing cry and disappeared into the canopy. We ran until our legs could carry us no further, finally coming to a rocky outcrop that loomed before us like a dead end. Dale cursed under his breath, pulling out yet another card. “These aren’t ordinary foxes,” he said hurriedly, his eyes scanning the area for an escape. “They’re part of a clan that’s been at war with the wolves for centuries.”

At the head of the sarcophagus was a small altar, and seeing candles carefully arranged on top, Merlin set them alight. This chamber was just as empty as the first one, and Zeke wondered if perhaps Merlin had made a mistake. Just as doubt began seeping into his mind, he heard a sound and turned to see the crow from outside was now sitting atop the sarcophagus, head cocked to one side, and intently studying them. They stared at each other, while Zeke suspected that this wasn't a normal bird, Merlin took a step forward and reached out to touch it. Suddenly, the crow squawked loudly and flapped its wings, rising up and backwards over the sarcophagus, where it changed into a beautiful woman.

Leon raised Owen face and wipe the tears on his eyes as he said. "Once we get married, there's no running away, no hiding, and most especially... No more ARCANUM.." The harsh calls cut through the night like a warning, and my wolf immediately went on alert. Communicating with Crows were one of my rare gifts. Unlike most birds, Crows were selective of whom the associate with and it took me a few trials to get them to trust me and since then, they’ve proven their worth. Their black wings blotted out the sun as they circled in eerie silence before vanishing into the forest, leaving only scattered feathers in their wake. Endora's gnarled fingers trembled as she pressed two vials into Lilac's palm. The first swirled with smoky darkness, cold to the touch. The second glowed faintly amber, its contents unknown to anyone but the old healer.
