Then— A low growl echoed through the forest. Three massive wolves emerged from the shadows, their fur matted with dirt and old blood. Their yellow eyes glowed with hunger. Rogues. Lynnek slowly backed away. "I don't want trouble." The largest wolf bared its teeth. That was answer enough. It lunged. Lynnek rolled to the side just in time, her dagger slashing across the rogue's shoulder. The beast howled but recovered almost instantly. The other two attacked together.

With that done, I heaved a deep sigh, and began to clean up. Three minutes later, I climbed into the bathroom and went into the first stall. Thankfully, the pests weren’t interested in my shopping bag. I took off my bloodied clothes and tied them around the doorknob to keep the door closed. Using my hands, I rinsed off the blood on my body. Wolves and Lycans have a strong sense of smell. I couldn’t risk the Lycan finding out about my little altercation. At least, not until I found the mastermind. It would only complicate the situation.

The Alpha and Luna are the only people they can't hurt. Anyone or anything else...dead within minutes of stepping into the Kindlenest Forest.” Olive wowed as she looked back at the forest around them. But it had seemed harmless. Wayne dropped the bag on the floor and waited. Immediately Olive stepped inside, the door jammed behind her. Her mate was gazing at her gently, looking fondly yet fiercely at her.

A need to destroy, to feed, to savor fear. My head was spinning. Silver? Wolfsbane? Crosses? Prayers? None of that felt real enough now. None of it would save us. We were alone. If anything at all it only ignited the desire to see clearer, forcing our sharper and clearer eyes to zoom in our surroundings. The unknowingly were helping us spot them hiding on trees in their human forms or in different stations of the bushes in their wolf forms.

His eyes are so wide with terror. The Lycan King growls again, and presses his forearm even harder against Ragnar's throat. I can't see his face, but I'm sure that it must be the scariest thing Ragnar has ever seen. His powerful, shirtless back is stiff, ready to spring free at the slightest provocation. I lower my gaze, and see that his other arm is darker, as though dusted down with charcoal. His fingers are the darkest, and at the tips, vicious claws stand ready.
