“Just as Solare will slowly lose its light, you will fall into darkness with it… so find what happiness you can, Hedy.” The darkness washed through my vision and I felt myself floating through the dark. I saw a glimpse of a large golden wolf lying in a shallow stream. It wasn’t Candido but Estella. Cillian appeared and kneeled beside her, stroking her head. His expression was soft and fatherly. I saw another couple nearby, huddled together and crying silently.

𝘼𝘽𝘽𝙄𝙀 I stood beside my window, fingers pressed lightly against the cold glass, watching the world outside. The world that could never be mine… no matter how desperately I longed for it. My eyes were fixed on Lara Harvard. She lived next door, and from my window, I could see everything that happened in her vast compound, almost identical to ours, yet somehow so different. Hers felt alive. Mine felt like a cage.

"And if you tell Father, I will tell him about how you broke the window in the library last week. I will tell him it was you, not the wind." Diego stopped smiling. His face went very still. The two brothers looked at each other. It was like a silent war between them. I stood there, caught in the middle. I looked at the grass. I looked at a small ant crawling over a pebble. I wished I could be that ant. I wished I could just disappear into a hole in the ground.

She banged on my car window as soon as she got close and I tapped a button and the window glided down. “Why the fuck are you still here?” she asked. “It's 5:30am you should not be outside my house.” I flinched, it was the first time I was hearing Hilda curse. “I'm sorry, I just couldn't……..,” I trailed off. “You just couldn't what? Can you stop with the whole sorry spiel? I'm tired of hearing that bullshit,” she said, a deep frown adorning her beautiful face. Her soft golden brown eyes looked so fierce and sharp.

Then lost it. "I don't know! Don't mess with my head! You're not my mom—I only have one mom, and it's Lillian!" He grabbed his head like it'd split open, then shoved me so hard I nearly stumbled. "Just die! If you're gone, everything goes back to normal!" My eyes flew open. He still wanted me dead? A car came flying down the road. I tripped right into its path. Someone yanked me back just in time. I barely dodged it.

We might not have the gold to present to him, but maybe that person Miguel was referring to would be our biggest chance. I was currently in my hotel room, waiting for the time to pass by because I had full anticipation of what was about to happen tomorrow. Standing in front of the huge window of the hotel room, I viewed the cars driving by. Their headlights illuminated the whole road and people still walked by in the street though it was already late at night. The glass pane of the window had been moist by my breathes as it started to blur.

Atlas said, both he and Aria staring at me. They both stared at me like I was overthinking things and then I thought that maybe I was. Nodding my head at them, I gave the window one last look before we started running once more. He was right. Greta didn't have the power to do that, I was just overthinking things. We had just ran for a few minutes when we came across the window once more, making me stop in my tracks. “It's still here Atlas,” I cried as I stared at the window in horror.

Rookie fucking mistake, I should have examined the window with more caution. Aside from finding another trap, I did learn the windows are made out of something similar to a two-way mirror or tinted windows. I can just make out my reflection in the glass, but I can’t see through it, yet I can see the light of this supposed lightning flashing inside. Iolaire walks up to me, “Find anything?” She quietly asks. “Razor blades,” I deadpan.

As Dahlia storms into the room, she screams, “How the hell have you been talking to people?” I laugh, “Nobody has been here. I talk to people in my sleep. Why?” She looks out the window and stops in her tracks. She is captivated by whatever memory she is seeing now. I look at all my siblings, and they are slightly smiling at me, knowing what the window is doing. I sit in my spot, on the floor, and wait as she continues looking out that window. Taylor, who is seated on the floor right next to the window, is watching Dahlia intently. Taylor looks at me, holds a finger to her eye and traces a line down her cheek to tell me that she is crying. I nod in understanding.

I removed my eyes as the car sped away and laid my head on the window. What is this feeling that I'm having every time I see him?
