We climbed up a stone staircase, moving quickly and silently. I was holding the Xenodermus babies we had rescued. We only stopped when we saw light ahead, and the exit from the arena. There, we saw a group of wounded Tarragons battling a huge monster—it looked like a centipede, but more vicious, with spikes along its back. Its many legs were sharp, and its head was massive with enormous, jagged teeth. Vestaria looked at me.
“What’s the plan?” she asked. I smiled. I handed the Xenodermus babies to one of the others we had freed. My claws extended, surprising them, and I knew my eyes were glowing.
