He looked at the horizon, where a single, black helicopter was rising from the other side of the ridge, its lights off, silent as a predatory bird. "They’re leaving," Dante said. "Wait," Ivy said, grabbing his arm. "Look at the fountain." The mountain of silver hearts was gone. In its place, the grey-habited woman sat on the stone edge, holding a single, real, human heart in her hands. It was still beating, connected to nothing, pulsing with a slow, rhythmic thud. She looked up at them, her eyes now the same shimmering silver as the twin in the photo.

Ash had made an effort to dose it down from the alien horror movie it was to the miracle of life it was supposed to be. I got to the final charm and felt like I was going to chock on a sob. Who let her breathe while refusing to disappear. Sleep came slowly that night, his mind replaying their last real conversation. The way her voice had trembled when she admitted she missed herself. I stopped in my tracks, and stared at the covered stage, hoping to see a person on it. The curtains still covered the entirety of the elevated platform, but I could hear silent footsteps behind it. I could feel goosebumps from every part of my body, and I stood stone in my position, overwhelmed. A gentle chord after chord followed in pursuit, and as I listened closely, it felt like I could discern the emotions behind the played music. Grief, loneliness… anger.

AMORA I arrived back in my place and got inside. My heart was beating around my neck I could feel it. I felt sick to my stomach. I tried to lock the door but it was a bit difficult with how blurry my vision was due to the tears that were threatening to escape.
