EVENING TIME Arthur was reading a book in his library when Jeremy walked in. "Sir, would you like to see them now?" "Yes." He replied after a while without glancing away from his book "Then I will have them prepared and send them in at once…" "There is no need for that. Take me to them instead…" He stood from his seat and dropped the book back into the bookshelf. "But sir…they are not washed up yet…" Jeremy protested, surprised with Arthur's sudden desire to meet the girls by himself.

My parents were arguing again—quiet, tense voices that they thought I couldn’t hear, but which always hummed under the door like dangerous electricity. Then there was a knock, and the door opened. “Arthur! Thank goodness you’re here,” my mother sighed, her shoulders dropping as if a heavy weight had been lifted. Arthur Vance stepped in, his tall frame warm and familiar, wearing that soft, kind smile I knew so well. He was always smiling. He smelled of cedar and old books. He walked straight over to me, crouching down until we were eye level, and ruffled my hair. “And how is my favorite little engineer today?” he asked, his voice deep and gentle.

I could feel her heartbeat beneath my lips, fast and strong. This was home. This was where I belonged. Then the door burst open. "Mama! Papa!" I pulled back, laughing, and turned to see Arthur standing in the doorway. His dark hair was a riot of curls, his gold eyes bright with excitement. His tiny tunic was already stained with grass from the morning's adventures. "Mama, Papa, you are awake!" He ran to the bed and launched himself at us. "Kylan said I had to be quiet because you were sleeping, but I was quiet for so long!"

Who would have thought that those foolish wolves marched down his territory on their own? As they reached the center, they saw them—Raven, Arthur, and their warriors—standing tall, waiting. Arthur and Raven both shifted back into their human form, their piercing gaze locked onto Derrick. "It's over for you, Derrick," Arthur said. "Surrender now, or die with the rest of your filthy rogues," he added. Derrick, who has also shifted back, laughs out loud. He then growled, baring his teeth at them.

On my grandfather’s farm, I met Arthur — a kind, good-hearted, and handsome guy. Blond, with light brown eyes — “whiskey-colored,” as they say — he had a natural way with animals and was studying to become a veterinarian. He was a bit skinny and had only recently started working for his grandfather. He was the same age as Eli. We quickly became friends. Arthur always knew how to keep a conversation interesting, and his sense of humor was spot on. One day, when Eli came to visit us on the farm, I whispered shyly,

Sometimes I like his cute side. "Kofi, taste this Dragon Fruit. It's fresh," Arthur calls my attention while sticking a slice of dragon fruit. He slowly approaches it to me as he feeds me. I open my mouth wide and taste it. "It's delicious!" I smile because I can taste the sourness and sweetness of the fruit. As I chew, I found the book that I'm looking for. I put it under my pillow to read it later. Arthur notices what I did, and he grabs the book under my pillow.

As he stopped his hands from feeling the wall. Arthur walked closer to them and stood beside the princess as he stared directly at the wall where the path should’ve existed. Arthur on the other hand started to giggle immediately dropping the book, leaning forward and backward with his hands on his chest and stomach pressing against his long-sleeved shirt. Tears formed in his eyes as his giggles became laughter that echoed throughout the large library. “You helped him, didn't you!! You helped him!!” He screamed.

I thought: she has been getting the not-being-alone from books because the not-being-alone was not reliably available from the rooms she was in. I looked at the volume in my hand. Arthur was pulling a sixth book from a shelf near the back of the shop. He turned and held it out and I crossed the space to take it and I looked at the cover and opened to the first page and read the first paragraph and I thought: yes. I thought: this one especially. "Six," Arthur said. "Six," I said. He looked at me over the reading glasses he had put back on. "You know her well," he said. "For someone who's never bought her a book before."

I took a deep breath and forced my legs to start moving. Jack looked concerned. Not that I could blame him really. I’m sure I was acting more than a little jumpy for just “looking at some pictures.” As far as he knew anyway. I held the book out for him, but he just stared down at the cover in confusion. I think he was expecting more of a traditional kind of album. I pushed the book into his hands. "Arthur has a special way to hide his 'special' photos," I explained.

I cheered as Jolly jesters started to dance in a funeral. I walked up to Arthur who gave me my wailing son, wailing in hunger before he kissed me. “That was so sexy you being so maleficent.” I turned my back to Arthur. “Let’s play after Tristan goes to sleep okay.” I said before I walked away with all eyes on me.
