I wanted know what they would feel like. "Read to me." His voice came snapping me out of my reverie and I was glad he spoke up cause I had a feeling that he wouldn't have liked it if I had kissed him and so I simply nodded, slipped from his lap, sat back where I was earlier and picked up the first book. It was titled 'one kiss from you by Christiana Dodd, great for the moment! I opened the pages and began to read while Orian reclined on the seat with his arms spread out paying an attentive ear to my voice.

“But they were only here during special occasions and long holidays. They’re busy with their job.” He started walking and I copied him. I didn’t bring my phone and earbuds with me. The last time I listened to an audiobook while running with a companion was a disaster. Jay thought I was having an anxiety attack because of my facial reaction to the thriller book I was listening to. Walking through the doors, I hear the shower running, but the door is closed and music blares from the other side. I pop in my earbuds, hoping to drown out the music with an audio book. I typically prefer reading physical copies myself, but given the circumstances, I would hardly be able to focus on the words. I've read entire books and not remembered a single thing as the words blended together in my mind. Laying back, I hold the bowl of fruit to my chest as words fill my ears, but I’m not paying attention to what they’re saying. Just a string of sounds filling my head in an attempt to drown out the sound of my own thoughts.

Alicia muttered, flipping the book open. They decided to take turns, each reading a chapter aloud in a low voice. Kevin’s tone was steady, smooth, the kind that could make even dry text sound alive. When it was her turn, Alicia’s voice carried softer, sometimes tripping over archaic words, but he never laughed. He listened, his focus on the book like he was tuned into every syllable. An hour passed in the rhythm of their voices and the scratch of Kevin’s pen taking notes. Alicia’s eyelids grew heavy, her concentration waning, until one line snapped her fully awake.
