I tried to run, but my legs wouldn't move. He had drugged me in the car. My consciousness blurred; I had to focus just to stay awake. I was done for. If anyone could save me now, it would have to be my phone. But it had been smashed by Thomas and left behind on the road. Despair consumed me… until the distant roar of a car engine reached my ears. Thomas frowned, hid the knife behind his back, and warned me to stay quiet. Then he went to check outside. What happened next, I don't know. When I woke, I was lying on the side of a road. The sky was completely dark. No one was around.

Eliza didn’t need to open her eyes to know where she was. She shivered from the cool pre-dawn dew that settled thick on her bare flesh as she slowly sat up. Although not as horrendous as the month before, sledgehammers steadily banged against the interior of her skull as her surroundings slowly came into focus. Her mouth was so parched that it felt like it was lined with sandpaper. She struggled to produce sufficient saliva to moisten it enough for her tongue to move freely.

Soon after I realized I can’t go back to sleep I opened my eyes and there is a girl my age, beautiful dark mocha skin with natural light brown and black short hair with coffee shade eyes staring straight at me. “Hello”, I said as I was awake enough to speak a simple greeting without my usual angry snark of someone not a morning person. She jumped off her bed after putting her laptop down and said in a hurried but soft voice, “finally you're awake. I have been waiting to meet you. Did you know you talk in your sleep very fascinating oh where my manners my name is Tearis Herven nice to meet you.”

A donkey stood where Mary stood a second earlier. “What?” The donkey rolled its eyes at Sally. “Even they think it’s funny. “That sounds like a title of a book actually.” The donkey laughed as Ryan turned to look at the high priestess and Deloris with questioning eyes. “Like that book…A Quiver Full of Arrows. This one will be, A Pack Full of Freaks… get it?” The donkey grinned at a horrified-looking Sally. The amused chuckles soon turned into laughter as both the high priestess and Deloris shook their heads at Ryan, indicating that neither of them had turned Mary into the talking donkey.

She cast her eyes around the room, catching glimpses through the eclipsing film, and the last thing she saw before unconsciousness claimed her was her copy of the Ruth Ware, the bookmark sticking out one third of the way through. I’ll never get to find out how it ends, she thought, before the black film covered over everything.

because I really feel like I'm not one of them. I am pale, no amount of basking in the sun could change my complexion, and trust me, I've tried. I am small, I am only as tall as ten-year old wolf-cubs, barely five feet tall. And my eyes are purple! How weird is that?! Wolves I know usually have eyes as dark as night, or as brown as earth or as gold as the sun! I bet no one has noticed it yet because of the low light but in the morning, everyone will notice and I bet that would make me an alien of some sort!

Chapter 21 EYARE I woke up to the chatter of birds chirping. With my eyes still closed, I searched for her but my hands came up empty. The bed was still warm. Her scent filled my nostrils and I breathed in deeply. I loved waking up with her in my arms. Where could she have gone? I heard the creaking of the bed and felt it dip. Her scent was stronger now. "Come here!" I said. My arms outstretched.

He kisses me on the temple with passion, squeezes me tight and I relax, rest assured that he means it because I know it’s true. She pats her abdomen for emphasis. Once she closes the door to her room behind her, she finds herself pacing back and forth, desperate for something to do. She can't seem to sit for too long. Her eye catches a book she's been wanting to read. Reading hasn't exactly fit her mood lately. In one swift motion, she grabs the novel off the shelf, jumps into bed, and opens to the first chapter.
