I shut the book and blew out the candle. Whatever this ritual was… it wasn’t over. And I wasn’t sure I’d survive the end. --- I woke up on the wooden floor of Ethan’s study. My body was cold. The light was out. The windows fogged from the inside.

I couldn’t tell if it was night or day. The last thing I remembered was the forest. I was running away and about to start my new life, that's when I felt it. The hands, rough, grabbing, and dragging me around like I was some criminal with a bounty on their head. I remembered the blow to the back of my head, and darkness swallowing me whole. Now I was here. Wherever here was. My throat tightened. I didn’t want to call out. I didn’t want them to know I was awake. But then, footsteps reached my ears.

Chapter Four I was awakened before the sun by the aroma of coffee. I briefly lay in bed, confused, and gripped the book he had given me the night before. The way his thumb touched mine and his eyes burned like a secret I shouldn't have known still made my heart race.

I couldn’t feel them and how badly I wanted someone to wake me up from sleep. Tears were pouring down my eyes in torrent and in that moment I felt like a betrayal and a loser. I left him there without thinking twice about it, I didn’t even bother with him because I was upset. Now, he laid dead in front of me and the only thing I could do was cry. I finally got to the body and before I could get myself, I crashed into his body but something happened at that moment. The second my body touched him, the whole hall lighted up and my lycan immediately emerged without me summoning her.

Chapter: 42 ******** As Dirk slowly opened his eyes, he found himself surrounded by the familiar comfort of his bedroom. The events of the previous night felt like a distant memory, almost akin to a dream.
