When I died, there was a woman reeking of talcum powder straddling me. She was my third client that night—and my last. She told me her favorite sound was the crisp snap of breaking bones—more beautiful than any music. My right hand had just been twisted at a grotesque angle, accompanied by her satisfied sigh, until it broke clean through. The pain hit like a white-hot brand, searing through my nerves—then receded just as fast, like a tide pulling back. All that was left was a numb, bone-deep cold. I could feel it clearly—life draining out of my ravaged body.

But underneath, there had been this huge danger lurking the whole time. I held Jasmine's hand by her hospital bed and sank into my thoughts. My original plan was to take back all the assets tied to Alyssa and then break up with her peacefully. Now, because of the mess she'd made for herself, everything that should have been mine had come back to me on its own. And Alyssa and her old flame would never see the sun again. Jasmine's hand twitched. She was showing signs of waking up. I gripped her hand tightly, calling her name.

By the time Friday crept in, St. Valen’s had already learned her name. Not properly. Not the way that mattered. But in the way that traveled fastest in places like this: through whispers and warped retelling. The new girl from Manila. The Sombra heiress. The one with the Rottweiler. The one who told Luca Ashford “no” and smiled while she did it. Althea heard versions of herself she didn’t recognize drifting behind her in corridors.

She has absolutely no problem spending her allowance to help others, too. “Your shirt,” replied her brother, Asher, with a sigh while rolling his eyes. Asher has blonde hair with green eyes and is his dad’s mini-me. He is going to be over six feet tall when he is done growing. He was wearing a simple pair of black basketball shorts and a green Minecraft shirt. He is the easiest to shop for on birthdays and holidays. Basketball, football, and Minecraft stuff. That’s all he wants. Like I said, easiest 14-year-old to shop for. Ever.

Ryker said. “It’s the new girl. We don’t know what she is yet as her identity has not been confirmed,” Remus said. New girl? Ryker thought. The only new girl they’ve had is the one in his class. Julianne Ashwynd. What has she got to do with this? “Julianne Ashwynd?” Remus suddenly asked and Ryker turned to him. “That is her name?” Ryker forgot he was in the midst of vampires who can read minds. He clenched his jaw and said, “It’s nothing.”

She turned to look at me. "And I'm Jade, my mum's daughter!" The little girl chirped in. I smiled at her ." What a cute name you got there .” I decided to ask about Mrs. Hamilton since I was on my way to see her, even if I didn't want to. " Is Mrs Hamilton going to be okay?” Yvette waved her hand. " Oh, don't worry. She's pretty old so this happens a lot .” I mouthed an 'oh'. She was pretty old.

We were chatting happily, but I froze when we stepped out of the elevator. Williams was standing at my door with a delicate box in his hands. James was smiling happily by his side. However, Williams frowned the moment he saw Ryan. Eventually, he forced a smile and sounded incredibly awkward. “Christelle, how have you been lately?” “I’m fine,” I responded casually and walked past him as well as James. Then, I took my keys to open the door Ryan and Lucas followed me from behind. Williams held James’s hand and tried to follow us inside, but I stopped them with my hand.

A faint smile curved her lips, but there was nothing warm in it. Ashleigh Dana sat beside Voss, her hair shifting in soft ripples of color I couldn’t read yet, pale gold at the roots, bleeding into streaks of copper and violet. Her attention was fixed on me, a quiet alertness beneath her otherwise casual posture. Of all of them, she felt the least threatening, though I knew she could be the most unpredictable.

Chapter 20 “A Promise” POV Ayesha Even though I’m surrounded by my family every day, and I have Stella. I feel strangely alone. Like I’m standing on a mountain in the vast wilderness looking out at the world and no one sees me or my pain. I’m standing in a storm with thunder and hail and dark black clouds, and I can’t escape it.

“My enemy lurks within this Park, the last blood of Kayla. Only if you bring her to me, I may spare you.” “It was said that Kayla's last blood held a great piece of virtue. She requested for her lover's ashes to be given to her as the reward for handing out her lover, Emmett, to the Alpha of their time to slay. They had it all these while, and maybe, along the way, they sold it to the hands of strangers, like the humans.” “Please, master, the people who had your urn know Kayla's last blood. You should go get your answers now for we know nothing.”
